2025 Adaptive Management Forum

The Delta Science Program hosts the Adaptive Management Forum every two years to increase capacity for more effective adaptive management in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The next Forum will be held on October 14-15, 2025, and an agenda is now available.

The Forum's first day will be a hybrid event from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM with in-person attendance at the California Natural Resources Agency Headquarters in Sacramento, California, and online attendance via Zoom. It will feature oral presentations, panel discussions, and a poster session from all stages of the adaptive management cycle to showcase successes, gaps, and future needs.

The Forum's second day will be an in-person field trip to the Lookout Slough Tidal Habitat Restoration and Flood Improvement Project from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. During this trip, attendees will hear from project representatives about what adaptive management looks like on the ground.

Register to attend day 1 in person or virtually and day 2 in person. Please note that virtual attendance will not be offered for Day 2, and space is limited.

Additionally, if you have a research, management, or implementation project to share, submit your poster abstract by September 26.

About Adaptive Management

Adaptive management is a structured, science-based approach to managing environmental and water challenges – especially when there is uncertainty. The Delta Science Program supports adaptive management by assisting with planning, communication, and implementation, so decision-makers can respond more effectively to changing conditions. We work closely with federal, state, and local agencies on ecosystem restoration and water management projects. We also partner with agencies and non-profit organizations to develop tools and frameworks that make adaptive management easier and more effective.

About Science Communication

Communication is essential to building the Delta science community and delivering pertinent information to scientists, decision-makers, and the public. Effective science communication transforms information into knowledge and knowledge into action. One way the Delta Science Program supports science communication is by hosting events, like the Adaptive Management Forum. View our events calendar to learn more about upcoming events.
