“Instants of Liquefying into Unison”
an art exhibition by Brenda Sabbagh

Artist statement.
I work in a pendular way between abstraction and figuration, exploring painting as a medium that integrates the material, the narrative, and the gesture that constructs it. The repeated, automated stroke becomes a physical and performative act, directly connected to the body—my body as a tool of production and the bodies that emerge and fade within the work. This focus on gesture often leads me to experiment with other materials, such as ceramics, alternative supports, or the structure of folding screens. Through these explorations, I seek to disrupt the preconfigured images saturating digital media, proposing new approaches to visual and narrative representation. My work embraces experimentation, avoiding linear methods to redefine the final outcome through processes of discovery and transformation.
Brenda Sabbagh.
Opening Night Thursday, February 6th, 5:30 pm.

About The Slip
The Slip is a contemporary art space located in Downtown Manhattan, dedicated to fostering innovative global art perspectives. Designed to challenge established paradigms, it encourages dialogue, reflection, and creative experimentation.
The name "The Slip" draws inspiration from its historical context and subtly plays with the layered meanings of the word. This blend of meanings reflects the space's exploration of transitions—between identities, cultures, and artistic practices—highlighting the tension between what is revealed and what remains concealed, and inviting curiosity and discovery. More than a gallery, The Slip is a high-value platform for cultural exchange among artists, curators, and researchers.

Gaspar Libedisnky | Diorama
| |
|
Gaspar Libedinsky (Buenos Aires, 1976) is a visual artist, architect, and educator whose interdisciplinary work mediates between urban scale phenomena and the private, intimate space of the human body. Key to his practice is what he calls his ideas fuerzas (driving ideas): the transformation of marginal objects into objects of desire, the conversion of the ordinary into the extraordinary, and the sublimation of everyday products into a “higher life.” Diorama presents three of his most iconic pieces — ‘Nube’, ‘Míster Trapo,’ and ‘Kunstformen der Natur’ — each of which rethinks the properties of basic household cleaning instruments: kitchen rags are upcycled into couture, plastic brooms become striking specimens of coral, and dusters turn into an uncanny explosion of clouds.

Luis Fernando Benedit
Curators: Laura Hakel - Bernardo Mosqueira - Olivia Casa.
Luis Fernando Benedit (Buenos Aires, 1937–2011) was an Argentine artist, architect, designer, and innovator of biological sculpture and systems art, who worked across sculpture, painting, and drawing. He was a key participant in the Buenos Aires–based art institution Centro de Arte y Comunicación (CAYC) and a founding member of the Grupo de Arte y Cibernética Buenos Aires and the conceptual art collective Grupo de los Trece.
In 1963, Benedit graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with a degree in architecture and simultaneously developed a self-taught practice in painting. At this time, Benedit started producing figurative paintings inspired by Art Brut, Informalism, and New Figuration. His later paintings of the mid- to late 1960s reflect his interest in biomorphic forms and living organisms as well as the influence of cartoons and Pop art. Following his first collaborations with CAYC, Benedit explored the relationship between cybernetics and living organisms within natural and artificial environments, shifting from paintings to interactive works. Benedit exhibited the first work in what is known as his series of “habitats,” small architectural structures made from clear acrylic and Plexiglas used for housing live plants and animals, in 1968 at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires. He produced habitats at various scales incorporating different natural elements throughout the 1970s.
These works included Biotrón (1971), an aluminum and plexiglass structure for bees that was presented in the 35th Venice Biennale, and Phytotron (1972), a hydroponic environment for plants that was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Benedit’s work has been the subject of exhibitions at the Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art (1980); the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires (1996); MALBA Costantini Collection – Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (2009); and the Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat Art Collection, Buenos Aires (2014), among others.

Anima Animal
The Joyce Theater opens its Spring/Summer ‘25 Season with a captivating contemporary dance production from Argentina, making its debut on the historic stage. Conceived by renowned American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer Herman Cornejo, choreographed by Anabella Tuliano, and performed with Grupo Cadabra, Anima Animal draws inspiration from Caaporá, a project envisioned over 100 years ago as the first "Argentine ballet". Remarkably, it was also one of legendary Vaslav Nijinsky's final projects, and finally never staged due to his declining health. Based on an Indigenous legend about a mystical bird from Argentina’s northeastern forests, Anima Animal invites audiences to reflect on love and compassion for the Earth and all its creatures.
Anima Animal is a powerful and immersive new work conceived by renowned dancer Herman Cornejo. It pays homage to a dance work that remained secretly unfulfilled for over a century. In 1917, legendary dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky was invited to stage Caapora, a ballet inspired by the Guarani legend of the Urutau bird—a mystical creature from Argentina’s forests. Though he accepted, illness prevented him from completing what would have been the first “Argentine” ballet.
Inspired by Nijinsky’s everlasting, groundbreaking artistic vision, Cornejo revived this narrative in Anima Animal, inviting audiences to reflect on love, redemption, and compassion for Earth and its creatures. Co-produced with the Teatro del Bicentenario in 2022, Anima Animal features choreography by award-winnin Anabella Tuliano, an original score by acclaimed composers DJ UJI and Noelia Escalzo, and performed with Grupo Cadabra.

LA CONSAGRACION DE NADIE
| |
|
“La consagración de nadie (Unsuccessful)” is about the search of Micaela, an opera singer and actress who was never able to enter the opera scene in Buenos Aires. In a documentary style, she decides to make her own personal bio-dramatic project, to tell her story, her path in art, to occupy spaces for herself and receive the applause she could not find in the opera universe.
The piece intertwines success, talent, destiny, frustrated dreams, challenges, family, ancestors, uprooting, teachers and loves. The need to leave everything behind in search of the desired consecration.
Micaela Fariña and Gonzalo Quintana are a duo of Argentine artists who have been working together for more than ten years. Directors, playwrights and actors in their pieces, rotate roles according to their desires and concerns. They work together, trusting in the idea of taking acting to its full potential by exploring different contemporary stage devices. In the documentary genre they find the key to building new boundaries between reality and fiction. Their pieces are characterized by exploring the musical aspects of the scene, understanding music not only as that which an instrument or voice is capable of reproducing, but as the variable rhythmic and musical treatment of bodies in space.

A heist picture unlike any other, The Delinquents upends genre expectations with a gentle yet deftly constructed existentialist fable. Timid bank clerk Morán (Daniel Elías), fed up with his dead-end middle-management job, decides one day to simply walk into the vault, pack a bag with enough cash to cover his salary until retirement age, and saunter out. This is the beginning of an endlessly surprising tale that Argentinean writer-director Rodrigo Moreno spins for the enjoyment of the viewer.
