King's Speech and Section 21
In the King's Speech, the government confirmed its commitment to the Renters Reform Bill. This bill, which is currently going through Parliament, aims to make renting more secure and affordable for tenants in England.
Key proposals in the bill include:
▪️ Abolishing Section 21, which allows landlords to evict tenants without giving a reason.
▪️ Introducing a new court process for landlords to regain possession of their property, with stronger grounds for eviction such as rent arrears and anti-social behaviour.
▪️ Speeding up the courts process so landlords can regain possession of their property if a tenant refuses to move out.
▪️ Clamping down on criminal landlords and protecting the student rental market.
