A Message from the Assistant Headmaster
Dear Families,

As I hope many of you are aware, the school’s Parent Liaison Group (PLG) exists to serve as a means of communication between parents and the school administration. Membership has changed for the 2019-20 school year, and I wish to recognize those who are new to the group: Beth Nordgren, Brian and Lisa St. Martin, and Christopher and Ruth Toner. I also want to express my gratitude to those who have served in the past and have stepped down: Mara Adams, Nell and Anthony Alt, and Mark Kimlinger. The PLG met last week and discussed a handful of topics, including both neighborhood and traffic safety; how to recognize, honor and educate students about the cultural diversity of our student body; our revised procedures for routine classroom cleaning; the draft calendar for 2020-2021; and ways to simplify the collection of fees for various programs like field trips. Parents are encouraged to bring comments, questions, or concerns on these topics or any others to the administration by way of the members of the PLG. The list of member families is on the school webpage and contact information is available in the student directory.

School Closing/Delay Protocol & Notifications

Winter has definitely arrived! Here are a few notes about decision making and notifications of school closings or delays.
  • We make every effort to decide our status on any given day by 6:00 AM and post our status by 6:15 AM. For our part, we give primary consideration to road/travel conditions, and we will most often err on the side of having school. We understand that families come from a variety of different cities, and weather and road conditions certain directions from Saint Agnes may vary significantly; should any parents make a decision not to send their child(ren) to school, we will respect those decisions.
  • When a decision has been made to close or delay the start of school, the order of posting is as follows: notification via Educate’s emergency alert system (email, phone and text), posting to the school website, and finally notification to the four major media sites (WCCO, KARE11, FOX9, KSTP5). Other supplemental notification may be given by social media but is not guaranteed.

I hope you all enjoyed a blessed and restful Thanksgiving with your families last week! We now turn our attention to the Advent season and set our hearts on waiting for our Lord to come.

Please Join Us In Prayer
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Bishop Paul Sirba , who died unexpectedly on Sunday morning. Before his nearly 10 years of service as the Bishop of the Duluth Diocese, Bishop Sirba grew up in our Saint Agnes parish, served as a priest in our Archdiocese, and held many connections with our church and school. Please pray as well for his family and friends left mourning this great loss.
Requiem æternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen.
Highlights of the Week
Dual-Enrollment Registration Open for Spring Semester or Full-Year Classes!
Our second and final round of Dual-Enrollment registration is now open!  The 16 additional courses now available are full-year classes or classes that are offered only Semester 2. (Our previous registration in October was for Semester 1 courses only).

A few notes:
1.        Payment & UMary registration form are DUE: Monday, January 6, 2020.
a.      The UMary form is required (turn in at Main Office);
b.      You may pay online via the school website (online payment may not be up until next week);
c.      or by check/cash (Main Office).
2.        Printed forms will be available in the Main Office and Guidance Office.
a.      We will not be printing forms for every student and distributing in classes.
3.      Questions?   Please carefully read through all of the letter and forms first, and contact Mr. Michael Adkins if questions remain.

Given the projectile launcher speed and a random launch angle, student groups gauged precisely (A) the location of the peak of the projectile’s motion (placing a hoop there), and (B) the landing location of the projectile (placing a target there). Hole-in-one isn't a bad way to start our week!

Car Raffle Turn-In Day #1 - Wed., 12/4
The first Raffle Ticket Turn-in is this Wednesday, December 4th by 9:00 AM! Here are some FAQ’s regarding the raffle:

If I send all of the household’s money with one child, will each child receive a ticket for the drawing?
No. We cannot know whether a family wants each child to enter the drawing or whether one child should get the credit for the sales. Therefore we can only give selling credit to the name of the student who turns in the money. However, the money turned in does count toward the family quota.

If my child/children forget their money on the turn in days, can I run it in to the office later that day?
We have stated that the incentives are based on money/tickets turned in by 9:00 AM. We have wonderful volunteers who come in to assist with the counting and tracking of the ticket sales. To respect their time and efforts, we must hold to the 9:00 AM cut off. Any money turned in after 9:00 AM will be added to the next incentive day.

What if I do not want to participate in the raffle tickets sales or am not able to sell all of our household quota?
Each family who does not meet their quota of $100/student with a maximum of $300/household will be billed this amount (or any remaining balance) on their tuition. This billing will happen shortly after the Red & White Gala on Saturday, February 8.

Junior Parents' Meeting - Wed., 12/4
Parents of current juniors are invited to a special meeting with Assistant Headmaster Mr. Karl Hendrickson to reflect on unique aspects of the junior year, things to keep in mind as students close in on the last three semesters of high school, and how parents and the school can work together for their continued growth in faith, reason, and virtue. The meeting will be from 1:45-2:45 PM the afternoon of Wednesday, December 4 in the Helene Houle Auditorium. The meeting is optional, and the session will be recorded for any families who are unable to attend. For planning purposes, parents are requested to RSVP here . Advent Evening of Reflection - Sat., 12/14
Join members of Saint Agnes Church & School for an Advent evening of reflection on family spiritual preparations for Christmastime. Following the optional vigil Mass, come to Schuler Hall to hear a panel of speakers (including Mr. David Gockowski, Mrs. Nell Alt, Mrs. Susanna Spencer, and Sr. Teresa Christi Balek, O.P.) offer practical suggestions for ways to make preparations with the Holy Family for the coming of the Christ Child at Christmas and for throughout the Advent and Christmas seasons. The evening will conclude at 8:00 PM with the opportunity for the Sacrament of Confession in the Lower Chapel. Please RSVP to Mr. Brandon Wanless by Wednesday, December 11.
Art of Manliness - Weds., 12/18
It's Advent and we're getting ready for the Nativity of Our Lord - Dads (or uncles, grandpas, godfathers) and their sons (boys in Grades 3, 4, 5, & 6) are invited to join us as we make a Christmas/Advent tree for hanging all of your cards on. Mr. Gockowski and Mr. Adkins will host this event in Schuler Hall (lower level at Church of Saint Agnes) on Wednesday, December 18 from 3:15-4:15 PM. Christmas Movie Matinee - Mon., 12/30
Young families, come and join us for a fun morning during Christmas break at Saint Agnes! Open gym will be hosted from 9:00-9:45 AM to burn off some Christmas break energy! We will enjoy a snack before watching The Star * in our Helene Houle Auditorium.

Informal tours of our school will be available from 8:00-8:45 AM and 11:30-12:00 PM. Please  contact Admissions Director Mr. Joseph Olson  with questions at 651-925-8803. 

*The movie is rated PG for “thematic elements,” so keep this in mind if you intend to bring very young or sensitive children.
Registration Open for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: Catechists & Assistants Training (Level I)
Last year, over 60 preschool and kindergarten students were introduced to Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at Saint Agnes. Our CGS program now serves 98 students, include 1st graders in Level II! As our Level II program (for ages 6-9) continues expanding, Saint Agnes is looking for committed people to serve as trained assistants and catechists in the atrium for the 2020-21 school year.
We are excited to be offering a Level I training at Saint Agnes starting in January 2020. Upon the participant's completion of the course and its requirements, he or she will receive Level I Catechist Certification. This formation course is sponsored by the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGSUSA).

Flowers Need for Our Sisters' Chapel
Please consider purchasing flowers for the Sisters’ chapel. We are so grateful for their presence in our school and community, and it’s a small token of our appreciation for them. If you are able to help, please sign up for a Friday afternoon to bring four bouquets and two green bunches to a bucket outside their chapel on the second floor of the school.
