Cantorial Intern Sam Rosen plays the Turkish oud, a lute-type stringed instrument, and sings the Ladino song "El Dio Alto"
"El Dio Alto" is a beloved Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) text sung during Shabbat. This lyrical setting of "El Dio Alto" praises God and highlights the special connection between Shabbat and the Jewish people. Through a distinctly Sephardi sound, this piece enriches our own experience in prayer, and celebrates the rich world of Jewish music. 

The oud is an instrument popular in Turkey, Greece, and the Arab world used by Sephardic Jews in both secular and liturgical music over the last 1,500 years.
