ACI Board/EPLP - Joint Session at
On July 11th, the ACI Board of Directors invited the 2017 Emerging Professionals Leadership Program class to join them for a board meeting at Dow AgroSciences. The EPLP was introduced to issues important to our members and the plans and goals our Board has for the remainder of 2017 and into the future. Special thanks to Jennifer Long, Board member from Dow, for hosting our meeting and for Ben Kaehler of Dow for giving us an inside look into Dow's vision for ag. The EPLP class also had an opportunity to visit the FFA headquarters for a tour of their national facilities and insight into the rich past of this organization. What a great day!

ACI Policy Committee Report to Board
Mark Shublak, ACI Government Affairs, gave the ACI Policy report at the recent board meeting. The policy committee is working on the agenda for 2018 and members are encouraged to issues to Mark or policy committee members. We are working with the Indiana Department of Revenue (IDOR) on the interpretation of sales tax exemption to include tender trucks and with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) on air permits. ACI will be work with the state chemist on fertilizer rules, on pesticides and a future rulemaking on noxious seeds. ACI will be following legislative summer study committees and the topics affecting ACI which include CAFOs in proximity to urban areas, rural broadband and public water.
Mark Shublak attended the Indiana Pesticide Review Board public hearing on Thursday, July 6 to provide comments on behalf of ACI. The board was hearing comments on a proposed rule to expand the list of state restricted use pesticide products to include certain herbicides containing the active ingredient dicamba
. Mark provided verbal comments about ACI's position on dicamba expressing concerns about making the product a restricted use pesticide and suggested that there is not enough evidence to support the proposed rule at this time.
