Handmade wool products available at Wool 4 Ewe!
Wool 4 Ewe, located in Nestleton, is a fully operational fibre mill that processes various fibres into rovings, batts or rug yarn. The mill also provides custom wool processing for incoming fleeces, and sells a variety of wool products at the on-site store, including dryer balls, soaps, insoles, sox, felting kits, wallets and much more!

REGIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
At The Regional Municipality of Durham, we aim to serve you by keeping you up-to-date on current economic development initiatives, projects and opportunities in Durham Region. Project highlights include:
  • On August 17, Durham Tourism will be launching a new redesigned website! The new site will highlight tourism assets in Durham Region, and include a new events calendar, links to social media channels and e-newsletters, a rotating banner highlighting events and attractions, dedicated pages for each municipality in Durham Region, and a new directory listing all Durham businesses.
The future is bright for tourism in Brock Township!
Last year, a tourism-focused Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) project was launched in the Township of Brock to support local business development and job creation.
 
The project consisted of trained volunteers conducting confidential interviews with over 40 business owners and organization representatives across the township. Data was analyzed, and recommendations were then developed by a leadership team consisting of the project partners. On June 25, the final report and recommendations were endorsed following a presentation to the Township of Brock Planning Committee.
 
As a next step, a two-part workshop will be held on September 20 at the Thorah Arena in Beaverton. The workshop will include a presentation of the findings from the BR+E, as well as an information session with Central Counties Tourism and Durham Tourism. Uxbridge council proclaims September Local Food Month
Throughout the month of September, the Township of Uxbridge will be home to a wide variety of food-related events and activities! On June 18, Uxbridge Council voted unanimously to proclaim the month of September Local Food Month to raise awareness about the importance of local agriculture on the food sector, as well as the local economy.

Celebrate Clarington's second annual Food Week!
Th e Clarington Board of Trade (CBOT) presents their annual Food Week from August 2 to 26, throughout Clarington! You can support Clarington's producers, as well as the restaurants preparing local dishes, by buying local foods or ordering from a participating restaurant thr oughout the week! Show your participation by sharing a photo on social media using the hashtag #CFW2018.

Durham Farm Fresh - 2018 brochure now available!
The 2018 Durham Farm Fresh brochure is available and features helpful resources and references for residents and visitors to Durham Region. The brochure includes a list of members, on-farm experiences and activities, a farm fresh map and a seasonal produce availability chart. The brochure is available to download online, and is also available at different location across the region, including The Regional Municipality of Durham Headquarters.

Co-op opportunities for high school students 
in north Durham
High schools in rural Durham, including Brock, Uxbridge and Port Perry, offer students an opportunity to build career skills, learn about their interests and develop valuable relationships in their local communities through co-opertative (co-op) education programs. Students can be placed in a variety of employment sectors, such as agriculture, business, education and trades.

Outer City Arts put the spotlight on creative expression 
in the Township of Brock 
Outer City Arts is a multi-functional arts organization providing access to resources and experiential learning opportunities for rural communities in all aspects of creative expression. In late 2017, Outer City Arts entered into a partnership with the Township of Brock to lease the second floor of the Old Cannington Town Hall. The organization plans to renovate parts of the space to make a thriving arts hub offering workshops, gallery space and a home for the performing arts.

AgriRisk funding has been renewed!
The AgriRisk Initiatives Program has been renewed under the Canadian Agriculture Partnership! The $55 million program will encourage partnerships between agriculture industry stakeholders; researchers; and federal, provincial and territorial governments to proactively explore and develop new risk management products and services for the agricultural sector.
Agriculture risk management helps stabilize farmers' incomes, strengthens farm businesses and encourages growth in the agricultural sector

Leading Livestock Genetics and DairyNews 
made a surprise visit in Durham Region!
This past July, Leading Livestock Genetics (LLG) co-hosted the 2018 Motor Rally alongside the Russian online publisher DairyNews! On July 18, the tour stopped in Durham Region to take part in the Durham County Holstein Club Twilight Meeting at Benrise Farm in Bowmanville. Approximately 400 people, including a Russian delegation, attended the event, where they enjoyed dinner, children's games, dairy cattle judging and social time. The evening was sponsored by The Regional Municipality of Durham, Economic Development and Tourism Division, Agriculture and Rural Affairs program.
Uxbridge Culvert Connection project
moving ahead this summer
Construction will begin soon for the Township of Uxbridge's largest infrastructure project!
 
On July 23, Council awarded the Brock Street Culvert Project contract to Brennan Paving and Construction Ltd. The project will require crews to dig up lower Brock Street and close parts of the downtown thoroughfare.
 
Stay tuned for the launch of uxbridgeculvert.ca - a one-stop-shop for all the information residents, visitors and business owners will need for the Uxbridge Culvert Connection Project.
The Durham Farm Connections high school program
 is coming to Clarington! 

This year, Clarington Central Secondary School will be hosting the Durham Farm Connection Program on September 27. Science classes

attend the program for one class period and rotate through eight interactive agriculture-themed stations, each showcasing the science in agriculture and encouraging students to consider careers in agri-business.

Uxbridge resident, Tyler Campbell recently created an online resource for those looking to buy more Canadian products. The "Made In Canada" website provides information about goods that are made by Canadian companies and/or manufactured within Canada. The site currently has about 234 listings spread across 16 categories--from grocery store items to furniture to car products. Visit madeinca.ca to find out if you're buying Canadian.
9th Annual Farmers of Uxbridge Night
On August 30, the ninth annual Farmers of Uxbridge Night will be taking place at the Uxbridge Arena Community Hall. Local farmers will come together to learn about agriculture in the Township of Uxbridge. The night will consist of networking, interactive displays, Durham Farm Connections travelling exhibit, produce for sale and more! Admission is free. For more information phone 647-467-3105.
