Hearn felt ill before racing this weekend and decided to seek treatment. He was admitted to the hospital, where he is not expected to be released until later in the week after undergoing a battery of tests.

"First and foremost we are always concerned about the well-being and safety of our competitors," DIRTcar Northeast Director of Series and Sanctioning Joe Skotnicki said. "Brett is a fierce competitor so we expect him to recover quickly and be back for the remainder of the 2012 season."

Hearn trails Matt Sheppard by only one point in his quest to win an eighth Super DIRTcar Series title, but improving his condition takes precedent over improving his position in the championship chase.

"I really wish I could race at Merrittville and I-96 because they are going to be awesome events, but the doctors won't clear me to compete," Hearn said. "I can't wait to get back in the car and get back on track to challenge for the championship."
