Retired Air Force Fighter Pilot And
Vietnam POW To Be Guest Speaker
For Hunterdon County Veterans Event
On Veterans Day, November 11th

Colonel Joseph Milligan, a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, originally from Hunterdon County, who was held as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for five years and nine months, will serve as the special guest speaker at Hunterdon County’s Veterans Recognition Ceremony that will be livestreamed on Veterans Day, November 11th, County Board of Commissioners Director Susan J. Soloway announced at the Board’s November 3rd meeting.
Soloway, who also serves as the Board’s Veterans liaison, said, “It is my great honor to announce that the guest speaker for the ceremony will be retired Colonel Joseph Milligan, originally from Union Township. Colonel Milligan served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1988, a career that included 113 missions as a fighter pilot in Vietnam, and five years and nine months as a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam.
Colonel Milligan resides in Texas now. When asked to serve as guest speaker, he was excited to do so and was gracious enough to record his presentation for use during the County’s ceremony on Veterans Day.”

Runs Smoothly
Melfi, Soloway, Holt Re-elected To County Offices

Hunterdon County voters re-elected County Clerk Mary Melfi and Board of Commissioners Director Susan J. Soloway and Commissioner Matt Holt, as over 56,375 vote by mail, early voting and election day machine returns have been counted in the county.
Board of Commissioners Deputy Director John E. Lanza, liaison for the Board of Elections and County Clerk’s Office, reported at the November 3rd Board meeting, “I can report that election day, the early voting process, and the vote by mail program were all huge successes thanks to the hard work by both the County Clerk’s Office and the Board of Elections team.”

Hunterdon Gains Fifty Grants
Totaling $8 Million In 2021
Grant Funds Aid Property Taxpayers

Hunterdon County’s various Departments have successfully landed fifty grants totaling nearly $8 million this year, which helps to significantly lighten the load on property taxpayers, Hunterdon Commissioner Board member Matt Holt has reported.
Holt, the Board’s Finance Department liaison, stated, “The various County Departments’ ability to gain grant funding for important services, along with the County’s strong fiscal controls that were recently certified by the independent audit, is a major contributing factor in the Board’s ability to freeze the tax rate for three straight years.”

New Jersey Survivors Now Have More Time to Apply for FEMA Assistance
The deadline for New Jersey homeowners and renters to apply for FEMA individual assistance for damage and losses from the remnants of Hurricane Ida has been extended to Dec. 6, 2021, Hunterdon County Commissioner Deputy Director John E. Lanza, the County's Public Safety liaison, has reported.
