This week's theme was, 'Under the Sea'. The campers started the week off with yoga and a themed activity. All of the campers learned about sea creatures and how they lived in their own habitats. Then they created ocean creatures such as crabs, octopus and clownfish by painting handprints on a large banner. Then 3-5 departed for their trip to canoe at Holmes Lake! On Tuesday, campers completed tennis and swimming. The Lincoln City Libraries also came to read books about nutrition and fitness and then everyone completed fun activities related to the books. On Wednesday, Josh the Otter came to visit Air Park! Miss Nebraska Junior came to read the "Josh the Otter" water safety book to the campers and Josh the Otter himself came to visit. Afterwards, 3-5 girls went to GIRLPowR while all of K-2 took their turn at canoeing. On Thursday, everyone went swimming to cool off in the summer heat and continued to learn archery skills and outdoor education. The campers ended the week at Arnold Elementary School with a themed 'Under the Sea' science experiment, swimming, outside games and weekly awards!
Last week, we had six campers who were awarded Camper of the Week who showed responsibility, respect and demonstrated a positive attitude! The winners in K-2 were: Ryder Servi, Nadia Johansen and Maria Sifuentez. In 3-5, the winners were: Kennedy Bartee, Abigail Schroeder and Eric Diaz De Leon.
Next week, our theme will be, 'Adventure in Space'. The week will start out with a themed activity and 3-5 will go to Sun Valley Bowling. Lincoln City Libraries will be visiting Tuesday, and k-2 will visit Morill Hall on Wednesday! Also, on Wednesday there will be a Conservation Presentation to all the campers. The week will finish with more swimming, spark games and another science experiment! REMINDER: The heat of the summer is upon us and in order for our campers to keep hydrated and healthy they will need to bring a WATER BOTTLE for summer day camp!
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- To reduce the risk of sunburn, please bring your child to the program with a bottle of sunscreen labeled with the camper's name to keep at the center.
- Tennis shoes are REQUIRED during summer day camp given the amount of physical activity we do every day.
- PLEASE have your camper leave personal items at home! This includes backpacks, toys, cell phones, etc. Items that are okay to bring are water bottles, insect repellant, sunscreen, swimming items, hats or jackets.
- Permission to use the vending machine is implied when campers bring money from home. We only allow purchases during lunch times and when the campers are picked up.
- Don't forget your swimsuit, sunscreen and towel on swim days.
- Please bring water daily. We can provide a water bottle if needed, but make sure it gets filled each morning. We want our campers to stay hydrated!
- Feel free to send your camper with a pair of sunglasses. Eye protection is just as important as skin protection.
