Summer Day Camp
This week's theme was, 'Party in the USA' to celebrate Fourth of July! On Monday, 3-5 went to Innovation Campus to the Innovation Studio. They toured the studio and made a plastic cast of their own thumb! Afterwards, they went to the Bob Devaney Sports Center and toured the Hendricks Training Complex. The sport of the week, volleyball, was also introduced on Monday. On Tuesday, in addition to swimming, the campers were visited by the Lincoln City Libraries and the Saltdogs! Everyone received an autographed pamphlet by the players and Homer the mascot. On Wednesday, it was K-2's turn to cast their own thumbs at Innovation Studio. While they were on their field trip, 3-5 made an Independence Day themed craft: a flag made out of popsicle sticks! On Thursday, campers had tennis lessons and swimming. K-2 created a firework watercolor craft while also learning facts about firework safety. On Friday, everyone enjoyed Fitness Friday, a USA science experiment, swimming and outside games and activities to end the week.

Don't forget this Sunday is Lincoln Parks and Recreation's annual Uncle Sam Jam! Many of the staff will be participating and campers are welcome to attend for some Fourth of July fun!

There were six wonderful campers who made the Campers of the Week list. For K-2, the campers were: Joshua Anderson, Mila Servi and Jaelynn Cardwell. For 3-5, the campers were: Kristopher Anderson, Rowan Servi and Rowan Williams. Thank you campers for being responsible and respectful this week!

Next week's theme will be: 'Nebraska Adventures'. The week will begin on Tuesday because there will not be Summer Day Camp on Monday, July 4. The week will begin with swimming, a themed craft, a visit by Lincoln City Libraries plus archery and outdoor education. On Wednesday, campers will visit Eagle Ridge Park in the morning. In the afternoon, 3-5 will also visit the State Capitol! On Thursday, there will be a themed science experiment and We Cook will visit 3-5.

On Friday of next week, everyone will be going to Mahoney State Park for an all day field trip. The bus will LEAVE AT 9:00 AM. All campers who come after this time WILL NOT ATTEND THE ALL DAY FIELD TRIP. The bus will return by 4:30 P.M. and parents can start picking up campers after that time.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
  • To reduce the risk of sunburn, please bring your child to the program with a bottle of sunscreen labeled with the camper's name to keep at the center.
  • Tennis shoes are REQUIRED during summer day camp given the amount of physical activity we do every day.
  • PLEASE have your camper leave personal items at home! This includes backpacks, toys, cell phones, etc. Items that are okay to bring are water bottles, insect repellant, sunscreen, swimming items, hats or jackets.
  • Permission to use the vending machine is implied when campers bring money from home. We only allow purchases during lunch times and when the campers are picked up.
  • Don't forget your swimsuit, sunscreen and towel on swim days.
  • Please bring water daily. We can provide a water bottle if needed, but make sure it gets filled each morning. We want our campers to stay hydrated!
  • Feel free to send your camper with a pair of sunglasses. Eye protection is just as important as skin protection.

Get out.  Be active.  Have fun!
