Air Quality Resources for Families
The  forecast for the air quality  continues to be in the “unhealthy” range (red) and may remain this way for a few more days. Until conditions improve, our schools will continue to follow the  EPA/CDC guidelines for schools , and recess, P.E. classes and after-school activities will be moved inside, and athletic activities canceled or modified.

Here is a  wildfire season resources for families  to help you become more informed about air quality issues and make family emergency plans. The resource guide is intended to help Berkeley families prepare and respond to emergency situations.

All Families Invited to Join Illuminate Home Connect
All families have access to a web-based tool called  Illuminate Home Connect which provides important information to help students succeed. Our teachers and staff use this online tool to share information with you about attendance, grades, and academic progress. To activate a BUSD parent/legal guardian account you need a personal access code, your student's school ID number, and your email address.

It is also critical for your email to be on file with your child's school in the case of an emergency and to send urgent messaging, such as the recent email from Superintendent Evans about school response to current air quality issues.

Recently, schools received letters for all elementary school families without an active account that included instructions and a personal access code to get started with Illuminate. If you are a BUSD parent or legal guardian and have not received your access code, please check with your child's teacher. If you have had technical difficulty in setting up your account, please email illuminatehc@berkeley.net for assistance. (Please provide your name, email, and your children's names, grades, and schools of attendance.) More information on the district webpage .
Professor Frank Worrell Places Education and Research in Historical Context for First Event in Superintendent's Speaker Series
The first speaker of the Superintendent's Onward and Upward Speaker Series, Dr. Frank Worrell, held the audience in rapt attention for 90 minutes on the evening of November 1, as he presented a range of the educational and psychological contexts that promote high achievement and academic talent.

He began by placing Berkeley’s 50 years of public school integration and the achievement gap in a historical and global context and shared a series of stories to illustrate the research he has been leading on how race, culture, and ethnicity play out in educational contexts and the key factors that support academic talent development in every classroom.

More about the presentation is on our webpage, including Dr. Worrell's slide deck.
Superintendent Evans and Professor Worrell consider questions from the audience at the speaker event on November 1.

See below for information on the next event with Dr. Carter on Dec. 11.
