History & Heritage Race Series

The third race in the inaugural History & Heritage Race Series will feature the F-117 Nighthawk! The F-117 Nighthawk is one of the most unique and memorable aircraft to fly in the United States Air Force. Designed as a twin-engine stealth attack aircraft, its design was based purely around evading radar signature and thus was the world's first operational stealth aircraft. Each registered participant will receive a finisher's medal and commemorative patch portraying the F-117 Nighthawk. Learn more and register for your next race here.

The History & Heritage Race Series powered by the Air Force Marathon features retired aircraft in order to begin to highlight all of the great aircraft that have shaped the U.S. Air Force’s air power throughout history! There will be a total of six aircraft featured in 2021 with each aircraft revealed one at a time.

The History & Heritage Race Series is a virtual race series which allows participants from all over the world to participate right from their home. You have the option to choose to participate in the marathon, half marathon, 10K, or 5K. Check out how the idea of this brand new series began here.
25th Annual Air Force Marathon

The safety and well-being of the Air Force Marathon participants, volunteers, event staff, spectators, and sponsors is always our #1 priority. Based upon the information available today, we are continuing our preparations for the September event.

Don't forget, prices for the 2021 Air Force Marathon will increase on May 3rd. Lock in your registration with current rates before it's too late. If you have already registered, pass this information on to your friends and family so they can join you at the start line this fall!

Did you defer your 2020 registration to the 2021, 2022, or 2023 Air Force Marathon race weekends? If you would like to use your deferred entry for the 2021 Air Force Marathon, you must register using the information emailed to you in December. Please note you have not been automatically entered into the 2021 event and you will need to register yourself for this event. If you do not plan to use your deferred entry for the 2021 event, you do not need to take any further action at this time. We will reach back out to you again before the 2022 and 2023 events with next steps.

Donated Race Entries to Airmen
Thank you to all those who purchased a race registration to be donated to a deserving Airman!

Gift registrations are now available for the half and full marathon for junior active duty, reserve, and guard enlisted members stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. All military members (E-1 to E-6) interested in receiving a donated entry for the September race are asked to submit the following information to usaf.marathon@us.af.mil.

- Name
- Rank
- Unit
- Race preference (half or full)
- A paragraph explaining why you are interested in participating in this year’s marathon

The deadline to submit a request is June 30. All gift registrations are given to Airmen on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Staff Sgt. Daniel Reskey, of the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, was one of the 2019 Air Force Marathon gift registration recipients who benefited from this donation. “The marathon was the most challenging and rewarding experience I’ve ever had,” Reskey said. “It was a great feeling to be one of the recipients so that I could compete and push myself in the Air Force Marathon.” Read the full story here.

Volunteer Registration

Volunteer registration for the 2021 Air Force Marathon opens on Saturday, May 1st. It takes over 2,400 volunteers to make up the Air Force Marathon Flight Crew each year and ensure a successful race weekend for everyone.

We have opportunities for individuals and groups at the two-day Health & Fitness ExpoBreakfast of ChampionsGourmet Pasta Dinner, pre-race, race day, and even post-race!

This year, we are specifically looking for course entertainment: bands, solo acts, cheer teams, high school marching bands, DJ’s, and more to serve as volunteers on race day. These volunteers provide fun, entertainment, and motivation for our runners along the course.

In addition to course entertainment, the Air Force Marathon is in need of Green Team volunteers for our expanding green program. Green Team volunteers help divert as much waste from the landfill as possible by sorting between trash, recycling, and compost.

You can learn more about volunteering with the Air Force Marathon here.
