To begin, please tell us a little about yourself, your agency, and your professional background in telecom.

I started in telecom in 2000, and my first position was at Birch Telecom (Fusion Connect). Between 2000 and 2004, I worked for as many as 10 different companies, because back in the deregulated early days of telecom, numerous businesses were popping up and offering more money for successful salespeople. I met my business partner, Matt Sadorf, back in 2004, which is when we started StrategiCom. We’ll be 19 years old in October of this year, which is very exciting for us. We’ve had a great run so far in the telecom consultantancy world. We want to make sure that StrategiCom lives on many years after we retire from the business, so we brought in teams of salespeople and project coordinators, and it’s gone well. We have 30 agents, four or five StrategiCom business card carriers, account managers and project coordinators, and we’ve grown drastically over the last five years.

Matt and I are like night and day, and it has really benefited our business. He's a sales engineer who is very analytical and uses a lot of spreadsheets. I fill the salesperson role because I like cold calling and to get out and talk to people. We're a good compliment to each other and that that's why we've had a successful company for the last 18 years.

For the first 13 years, we sold voice and data, including Internet fiber, DSL, and Charter coax as well as primary rate interface circuits (PRI) and SIP trunking. About five years ago, our client base really started reaching out about cloud-based phone systems, so we began focusing on that as well. When Matt and I started our partnership, I worked on the Birch side, and the building he worked in that was connected to mine was Ideacom, a phone vendor. He was the one who convinced me to start selling phone systems. I was reluctant at first, but I absolutely love it now. We tested many of them and eventually chose our flagship product. These systems have changed our business, especially because they’re all so different. We’re also focused on Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS). During the COVID-19 pandemic, customers needed work-from-anywhere (WFA) solutions, and we were able to provide that, and our business has grown in response.

What do you like about working at AireSpring?

"AireSpring’s customer service is fantastic. These days, many companies do so much customer service through their website or through chat and you can't even get a real person on the phone."

We’ve been partners with AireSpring for nearly 15 years, and we’re really happy with the partnership and working with AireSpring Regional Channel Manager Jon Massad. When our customers reach out to us, we want to respond to them in a timely manner, and AireSpring helps us make that happen. AireSpring has always been superb about getting us responses. I can call Jon on a Saturday, and he still gets back to me very quickly.

There are so many carriers out there that don’t have the kind of customer service that AireSpring does. These days, many companies do so much customer service through their website or through chat and you can't even get a real person on the phone. It can be very frustrating. AireSpring’s customer service is fantastic. Every time I’ve called and opened a ticket, I get someone on the phone. If we have an issue with a circuit, for example, we can get on the phone with a live person at AireSpring to solve it; they start working on a ticket and checking the circuit as soon as I start speaking with them.

What would you say is the secret to being a successful trusted advisor/sales agent in today’s marketplace?

Customer service is everything. With respect to StrategiCom, we are a full post-install support company, so when our clients have an issue, they reach out to us, and we get on the phone with the carriers to make sure that issue gets resolved. Whether it is regarding a sales quote, a ticket that you opened, or you're having an issue with something, it is imperative that you get back to that customer even if you do not have an update or an answer. You're calling that customer back.

"Being a true consultant is crucial. As a trusted advisor, you must be honest and provide the absolute highest level of customer service."

Reliable customer service is the most important part of having a successful business this day and age, which is something I’ve also heard from our StrategiCom sales agents. . They want commissions, of course, and they like that we can review bill copies and we have all these carriers to sell. But, when I tell them that if their customer has an issue, they can reach out to us and we handle that for them, they're absolutely shocked, because they have the same opinion as I do, which is that customer service has gone by the wayside. Being a true consultant is crucial. As a trusted advisor, you must be honest and provide the absolute highest level of customer service.

What do you foresee happening in the channel in 2023? (What is the “next big thing” or “things” you think people should be aware of or get involved in, etc.?)

"...another big thing we see happening in the channel is cloud-based phone systems. Even though they've been around for many years, the market isn't yet saturated. Not only do cloud-based phone systems reduce overall monthly costs, but they also improve mobility for remote workforces."

Security is of course important, but another big thing we see happening in the channel is cloud-based phone systems. Even though they’ve been around for many years, the market isn’t yet saturated. Not only do cloud-based phone systems reduce overall monthly costs, but they also improve mobility for remote workforces. CCaaS is also another category that still continues to grow. The MRCs are high, it’s a very important piece of business, and it’s very lucrative for the trusted advisors . Also, anyone who is not involved in Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) should get involved. That’s the first step, because it’s data-driven now, just like cloud-based phone systems are.

CCaaS is especially important these days because the need is there, and the mid-market is more willing to automate and update their technology. It’s not going to be a fit for everybody, but it’s like any other sale. You just need to make it worth their while by explaining the product in detail and why it would be something worth the extra expenditure. So, we’re really trying to get ourselves well versed in CCaaS and discuss these opportunities with our clients to ensure their needs are met.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of telecom?

Football and golf are my two main hobbies. During the summer, if we have the time, my partner Matt and I try to play some golf together on Friday afternoons. At StrategiCom, we like to take our clients out to golf. Matt is a very good golfer. I’m not as good, but I certainly like going out, having a few drinks, and socializing. From August to February, I enjoy being involved in fantasy football, including numerous leagues. (February is a really depressing month because it’s too cold for golf and football’s over!)

I also like baseball, especially now that my son is working for the Pittsburgh Pirates. My son and I like to go to Pittsburgh Steelers games and Mizzou football games. We tailgate multiple times a year with my son and daughter, who both attended the university this last year. They were a freshman and a senior at the same time, so it was really exciting for us.

Tell us about your professional background prior to joining AireSpring.

I have over 12 years of experience in telecommunications as a channel manager for both master agencies and suppliers. I started my professional career in telecom in 2011, installing phone systems at Spartan Communications, and later moved on to specialize in cloud technologies as well as connectivity and cybersecurity products.

When I learned about all that the channel had to offer, I became a trusted advisor. I quickly learned about the job and was eager to flip to the provider side of the channel. I worked for several providers in the channel, including Claro Enterprise Solutions and Nexogy, building relationships with the partner community and technology experts across the Houston, TX region.

Tell us about your role at AireSpring and how you support our channel partners.

As a Regional Channel Manager for the southeast Texas and Louisiana regions, I spend my time educating the partner community about AireSpring and its range of solutions. I also work with partners and their customers to help bring them into the cloud. The great thing about AireSpring is that we’re completely 100% channel, which provides me with the opportunity to help channel partners deliver the best solutions to their customers.

What do you like about working at AireSpring?

One thing I really like about AireSpring is the family atmosphere. Everyone here is so nice and respectful of each other. That's important to me. I really enjoy working with not only my team, but also other departments within the organization. I also like the diverse and innovative product set that AireSpring brings to the partner community as well, including Global Managed SD-WAN, SASE, and now Cloud Web Security.

Tell us about your hobbies outside of work.

I love to spend my time outside of work cooking for my family. I am a wine enthusiast and love visiting wineries here in the Texas hill country. My husband and I have 6 kids between us. Our youngest daughter is in cheer competition and keeps us busy with that. We have two rescue dogs, a small terrier mix, and a very large dog, Argentino.
