AireSpring Appoints Sonia Tremblay as New Director of Mobility Operations

AireSpring is pleased to announce that Sonia Tremblay has joined AireSpring as Director of Mobility Operations. Sonia brings over 25 years of experience to the role, starting her career at Nortel and later joining companies such as AT&T and BT Communications in various customer operations, service delivery, project management, and client relationship management roles.

While at BT Communications, Sonia led a team of first-line project managers, managed global migrations of major clients, and served as Director for Supplier Performance Management, overseeing a team across Latin and North America.

Sonia began her career in the mobility technology industry at Pareteum Corporation, a Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) provider specializing in mobile virtual network (MVNO) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, where she served as Program Service Delivery Manager for several years. Pareteum was later acquired by Syntegra, where Sonia continued on as Senior Director of Service Delivery and Customer Care.

“I’m excited to join AireSpring and help develop the Mobility Operations team,” stated Sonia. “The close collaboration and family spirit at AireSpring has made me feel welcome from the start, and I am eager to contribute my experience to help AireSpring continue to deliver outstanding customer service.”

“We’re happy to welcome an experienced mobility professional like Sonia to the AireSpring team,” stated AireSpring SVP Mobility, David Hess. “Her level of knowledge and professional commitment to service delivery makes her a stellar addition as she always strives to provide the high-touch level of service to channel partners that AireSpring is known for.”

AT&T POTS Replacement Solution from AireSpring

AireSpring is excited to announce that it has partnered with AT&T to provide a POTS replacement solution for customers who need to upgrade analog copper phone lines. The nationwide decommissioning of POTS lines is underway and major carriers are moving away from POTS in favor of more reliable, cost effective and better performing options. The AT&T POTS Replacement Solution from AireSpring is a cloud-based, enterprise-grade voice over internet protocol (VoIP) replacement that connects to analog telephone and specialty data lines, converts traffic to IP, and sends via an internet connection to the VoIP network. Unlike POTS, which uses multiple dedicated specialty lines for devices such as fire alarms, burglar alarms, elevator alarms, emergency call boxes, and gate buzzers, the AT&T POTS Replacement solution consists of one device providing reliable routing of specialty lines over IP using existing broadband connectivity. The solution also includes:

  • Over-the-top connectivity from AT&T (or a third-party broadband carrier nationwide)
  • AT&T 4G LTE wireless backup options
  • AT&T professional installation
  • Data Remote (DR) 9010 – 2 lines, or DR 9090 – 8 lines
  • Unlimited domestic local/long distance

To begin, please tell us a little about yourself, your agency, and your professional background.

I started my telecom career 30 years ago with Eric Ryan Corporation (ERC) when it was Utility Cost Cutters, a new startup utility and telecom auditing company. Our business initially consisted of auditing utility and telecom billings for errors and working with our clients to get refunds and correct those billing errors. We continue to offer the auditing services but have also branched out and additionally provide telecom expense management (TEM), bill pay, 24/7 help desk services, pricing, and implementation services on all types of telecom products as well as our utility products. ERC works with many types of businesses but has a large portfolio of hospitality clients and we have been providing our expertise in that industry for over 25 years.

Over the past 30 years I have held many roles at ERC and have managed the telecom portion of the business for the past 25 years. ERC was also recently acquired by Renodis, a consultant and TEM solutions provider out of Minnesota.

What do you like about working with AireSpring?

AireSpring provides a partnership to ERC that we have appreciated for many years. Because of our hospitality service offering, AireSpring’s internet and SIP solutions are a great fit.

"We know that we can call AireSpring’s NOC desk any time if a circuit goes down and be able to get the support we need."

We value the support that we receive from our team (AireSpring Regional Channel Manager Gabriel Valderrama, AireSpring National Director of Channel Sales Charles Lomond, and AireSpring Platinum Projects Manager Yousra Mesbah) and know that they will be there to support our clients by providing the customer service we expect. ERC offers a 24/7 help desk along with our services, and we want to work with carriers who are going to be able to support us. We know that we can call AireSpring’s network operations center (NOC) desk any time if a circuit goes down and be able to get the support we need. AireSpring’s high level of customer service is rare in the industry.

What would you say is the secret to being a successful trusted advisor/sales agent in today’s marketplace?

Support of the client is key, along with honesty and listening to what they have to say. The telecom industry is known for its struggles to provide a positive customer experience, so doing this well will help you differentiate yourself in the marketplace.

"Support of the client is key, along with honesty and listening to what they have to say."

ERC has built a business on providing that customer experience to the client as well as working with the carriers. It is our relationships with carriers like AireSpring that allow us the ability to provide this positive experience. We are the go-to for our clients and we build relationships with carriers so that we can get results for those clients. Knowledge is the next key ingredient; it’s important to stay current with the most important changes happening in the industry and work with carriers like AireSpring that provide that training, support and knowledge.

What do you foresee happening in the industry in 2023? What is the “next big thing” or “things” you think people should be aware of or get involved in, etc.?

Security has become such a huge issue that every “next big thing” in the industry is connected to it. Over the last few years, we’ve been taking on security and cloud roles, increasing our offerings and becoming more active in that area.

"It’s important for companies to look at their security strategies to make sure that they’re taking advantage of the latest technologies."

We hear about somebody getting hacked every day in the news, including in the hospitality industry, so for everyone, security is going to be the area of focus for the foreseeable future. It’s important for companies to look at their security strategies to make sure that they’re taking advantage of the latest technologies and ensure that they are protected. Likewise, it’s imperative for those in our industry to be knowledgeable about those technologies so they can pass that knowledge on to their customers.

Going forward, we plan to become more of a market player in security, especially now that we’ve been acquired by Renodis, because the demand is growing.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of telecom?

Outside of telecom, I am the owner of a Bed & Breakfast in Western Pennsylvania, The Jacqueline House of Wilmington. Years ago, I was intrigued by the hospitality industry since we provided service to so many hotel properties and thought it would be fun to own a small inn. Eight years ago, my daughter moved to a small town in Amish Country, New Wilmington, PA, and we found a small B&B for sale – I purchased it, and she helped me run it until 2 years ago. I still own the B&B and have a wonderful staff that continues to help me manage it. I also love spending time with my children and grandchildren.

Tell us about your professional background and roles you’ve held prior to joining AireSpring.

My professional career started in high school and never stopped. Throughout high school and college, I worked in sales support in the garment industry in NYC, and during my college years I used those connections to set up a flea market seasonal business selling garments procured through wholesale prices around the holiday season that did very well and paid my college bills.

After completing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Marketing, I took on a role selling computer systems to Fortune 500 companies in an era when mainframes ruled. After two years of doing this, I joined AT&T as an Engineer, supporting both software and hardware applications.

During my 35-year career with AT&T, I had the opportunity to work across many key functional areas of the business. My roles included multiple sales assignments, strategy, product management, technical marketing, contracting, sales operations, and service operations. During this time, I also completed an MBA degree. During the last five years of my tenure at AT&T, I managed all the Indirect business segments for the company, with teams responsible for ordering, project management, billing, maintenance, API operations, and sales operations. The journey was enlightening; it enabled me to get a perspective on so many functional areas of the business and I came to really understand how different organizations managed their workload.

While working at AT&T, I also had the chance to be involved in side work “hobbies,” including being a partial owner of an inherited dental practice in New York. When COVID-19 hit, my wife and I opened up an LLC for home schooling and tutoring services, leveraging her teaching background.

What led to your interest in AireSpring?

In my last role at AT&T, I worked with AireSpring for 5+ years, servicing AT&T’s access needs and providing day two support. I had the opportunity to work with many folks at AireSpring during this time. I have always been impressed with AireSpring’s focus on the customer as well as the leadership team and their vision for the business. I admired the professionalism in how we solved business issues together and the wonderful relationships during this time. AireSpring was clearly the number one company I enjoyed working with from the “other side” and when the opportunity came to leave AT&T and re-wire my business interests, AireSpring was the perfect choice.

Tell us about your new role at AireSpring and what you plan to accomplish.

AireSpring is 100% channel focused, and my team and I provide a vital role by enabling communication and connectivity across business clients through our model of supporting partner sales. I have the privilege of leading the Service Delivery team as Senior VP of Service Delivery. The team has a broad range of functions to enable the delivery of services ranging from Project Coordination, Managed Service Engineering, Hosting Design, and Provisioning.

At AireSpring, our mission is to delight our partners and end-user customers, and for us, it’s all about the customer experience. Telecom solutioning has always been complex; our job is to make it easy for the partner and end customer to get the services they require in a frictionless environment. We are tasked with delivering an integrated solution that can include internet access, voice services, firewalls, SD-WAN, mobility solutions, etc. Our customers don’t want to deal with carriers all over the country and then all the additional vendors that go on top of the access.

We are laser-focused on taking new customers and providing the best experience, so they keep coming back to AireSpring. It’s our job along with channel and account managers to retain customers and partners and grow the business together. A lot of this comes down to how we execute in Service Delivery and our overarching goal is to deliver the highest quality experience – on time and right the first time!

Tell us about your hobbies outside of work.

To start with, I’m a continuous learner. Beyond trying to keep pace with technology, I completed a Certified Financial Planner Program at NYU earlier in 2022. I enjoy counseling millennials and Gen Z on financial basics and have done this since my kids were in college.

I highly value spending time with my wife and two grown children (ages 26 and 24) whenever we can. We love to travel, especially throughout Europe and seem to always be planning a trip somewhere. Currently both our children live nearby in the Dallas area, and we always enjoy getting together and looking for new restaurants to try.

I am also an avid runner committed to getting in a few miles a day (and haven’t missed a day since March 2019). For the last 10 years, I’ve logged over 1,000 miles every year. I’ve done 25+ half marathons and approximately 10 full marathons (although I may be sticking to halfs going forward), with my next race set for February.

Additionally, I enjoy watching sports at any opportunity I can as well as attending live events.
