Brad Helton, Airways Freight Compliance

Welcome to the Compliance Team, Brad!

The Compliance Department at Airways was headed by Dave Hood for 20+ years. During Dave’s tenure 9/11 happened and a complete overhaul and increase of airfreight rules resulted that changed the industry forever and have been evolving ever since. For the last seventeen years I proudly worked for and eventually alongside Dave. As of May of last year Dave retired and I took over. For months before Dave’s retirement we talked about who would be the best fit to bring into our little department.

Though there are only two people with ‘compliance’ in their Airways’ job title, compliance involves many different groups with sometimes different agendas. Several people inside Airways play key roles in overall compliance, the entire operations staff does its part daily, our vendors have their requirements and we’re all beholden to federal rules and regulations, not to mention a force of local and nationwide TSA Inspectors all with their own unique issues and personalities, but at the end of the day we all must be on the same page. We knew the person coming into Compliance would have to come from inside Airways and have cultural and operations experience unique to Airways, but also must have a skill set that allowed them to work effectively with all the different groups involved. We wanted someone who was smart, steady, dependable, articulate and innately diplomatic.

Brad Helton meets and exceeds all those requirements. He spent the last 6 months learning the ins and outs of what the compliance job requires while still working full time in Domestic Operations. On January 1, 2024 he hit the ground running and has spent the last month continuing to prove he is the right person for the job. His operations experience, drive for excellence and overall character make him uniquely qualified to do so many jobs at Airways. I am very pleased he accepted this one.

Airways compliance posture evolved because of Dave Hood’s immense knowledge of the industry and was molded by his impeccable character and loyalty to Airways management, employees, agents and vendors. Brad is an excellent fit to help carry on that legacy. He is an asset to this little department and Airways as a whole. Please help me welcome Brad Helton into his new position.
