Airways Freight Employee of the Month Brad Helton!
"Brad Helton – having a second generation employee is always special. His father, Dan, and I have worked together for over 35 yrs. When Brad approached me for a job he did so without his father’s input or influence. Dan didn’t even know he was talking to me. That impressed me that he was standing on his own talents and he’s certainly done that and much more. Brad is one of our integral building blocks for the future and we’re very fortunate to have him a part of the Airways family. His dad is a pretty good guy too!"

"What to say that probably has not been said already about this guy. Within this company or any job I’ve had, Brad is one of the best colleagues I ever worked with and I’m not easiest person to work with. He is patient, very smart, respectable, and wants to see everyone around him succeed. Sitting next to him and watching his approach to the job, makes me strive to be a better operator than even I thought I could be. I can’t be the only one who sees this from him either, as he takes on anything that comes his way with a calmness about him that is just amazing. He never gets too high or too low and that is a quality that not many share. On a personal note, I bounce fatherhood/life scenarios off him as a measure to make sure I’m somewhat on the right path and I’ve learned his character as a man/father/friend is as impeccable as his work ethic. June is officially upon us and can you believe we are already halfway through the year?
The word June was originated from the goddess and wife of Jupiter.
There are a lot of happenings going on in June, World Environment Day on June 5th and Father’s Day on June 20th as well as the longest day of the year – the Summer Solstice on June 20th.
During the summer solstice, the sun is the closest to directly overhead that it will be for you all year. This means that your shadow will be its shortest length. If you are lucky enough to live in the tropics, you won’t see a shadow at all, giving people and objects an eerily unreal look.
This month is National Candy Month along with National Dairy Month, National Seafood Month and National Iced Tea Month.
We also have Chocolate Macaroon Day on June 3rd, Strawberry Rhubarb pie day on June 9th and Chocolate Éclair day on June 22nd.
June’s birthstones are Alexandrite, Moonstone and Pearl and birth flowers are honeysuckle and rose which symbolize love, devotion and generosity.

"In thinking of Dave Hood’s 40th Anniversary at Airways, I was asking around for Dave stories and other perspectives on Dave to fun this up a bit. Dan Helton can tell you a great story about Dave accidentally setting himself on fire. And you can ask any of the older ops folks about what it means to get “Bird Dogged” by Dave and you’ll have a heck of a giggle over it. There are those that remember a time that Dave was in charge of the ops floor and wouldn’t turn on the lights until we went positive in billing. He’s everybody’s favorite bartender, the best cheese dip maker, and the best guy to put on the stand if you need a witness. But of all the great Dave stories and anecdotes people offered up, Tom Hatfield said the thing that says the most about Dave’s 1st 40 years at Airways. “Many of us owe or career to Dave’s mentoring.”
"As a boss, he’s the best. As you all know, Dave’s a man of few words, but the words he does utter are always either important or funny, so when he does speak you should listen. He doesn’t criticize – he corrects. He doesn’t preach – he teaches. He doesn’t blame - he looks for opportunities to encourage achievements. He always has a plan, or is in the process of formulating one, and that plan will always prioritize the wants and needs of others and the good of Airways. He is gracious and considerate and steadfast and never misses an opportunity to show appreciation.

As we enter into the Summer and exit from Covid-19, we extend a heartfelt appreciation to our customers, sales agents, vendors and employees. If it were not for your loyalty and continued support, business would not be where it is today.
The world feels like it was put on pause and we are now able to hit the play button. Our Trade Show team has been hard at work preparing for a bountiful show season and by the sound of things on the operations floor, it will be!
