Weekly, we share highlights from the Council's legislative agenda from the previous Monday's Committee and Council meetings. We also feature the definitions of and information about commonly used terms and acquaint you with council-related facts.

Legislative Highlights From Monday, October 31st, 2022


On Monday, Council held the Public Hearing for the 2023 Capital Investment and Community Development Program, legally referred to as the Capital Investment Budget. More information can be found in this Press Release.


Council also held a Review Session, which you can watch here. A second Review Session will take place on Monday, November 7th at 4:00 p.m. in Council Chambers. This Review Session will also be live-streamed on YouTube. Though the Public Hearing has already occurred, you can participate in the Public Comment Period of the 7:00 p.m. Council meeting by submitting a Public Comment Form


ORDINANCE NO. 291-2022

  • Amending and/or supplementing Title 11 “Business Regulations,” Chapter 111 “Regulations Governing Specific Businesses” to enact Article 37 as “Short-term Rentals” to create procedures for the registration, regulation, fees, and enforcement of short-term rentals in the City; and declaring an emergency. Registration is not required until January 31, 2023, and those with active listings on short-term rental sites will receive a notification. Online registration, online tax reporting, and collection, and a 24/7 hotline will be available soon to accommodate the registration and compliance process.


Ordinances Introduced to the Public Safety Committee

                                                                   

ORDINANCE amending and/or enacting Title 9 “General Provisions,” Chapter 93 “Fire Prevention,” Article 2 “Definitions,” Section 93.30 “Definitions” of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Akron; amending and/or enacting Title 9 “General Provisions,” Chapter 93 “Fire Prevention,” Article 3 “General Regulations,” Section 93.51 “Carbon monoxide detectors in new and existing residential structures” to require carbon monoxide detection devices in residential structures in the City of Akron; and declaring an emergency.


ORDINANCE amending and/or enacting Title 15 “Land Usage,” Chapter 150 “Environmental Health Housing Code,” Section 150.01 “Definitions,” Section 150.08 “Equipment and facilities,” and Section 150.13 “Rooming houses – Equipment and facilities” of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Akron to require carbon monoxide detectors devices in residential structures in the City of Akron; and declaring an emergency.

COMMITTEE


A smaller group of members of Council that meet to consider legislation before it is considered or voted upon by all of Council. Standing committees are established by the Rules of Procedure of Council and have five members each. These meetings are open to the public and are live streamed YouTube,
