Weekly, we share highlights from the Council's legislative agenda from the previous Monday's Committee and Council meetings. We also feature the definitions of and information about commonly used terms and acquaint you with council-related facts.

Legislative Highlights From Monday, November 21st, 2022


ORDINANCE NO. 317-2022 providing for the temporary appropriation for the current expenses and other expenditures of the City of Akron for the period of January 1, 2023 through March 31, 2023; and declaring an emergency. Council will receive more information prior to passing the annual operating budget legislation. These information sessions typically take place in March in Council Chambers and are also live-streamed on YouTube.


ORDINANCE NO. 320-2022 authorizing a Conditional Use to establish an emergency youth shelter at 845 Crouse Street; and declaring an emergency. A public hearing was conducted. Harmony House desires, in collaboration with other social services agencies, to be a hub for the Middlebury community where at-risk homeless youth can receive health and mental health services, transportation, computer training, employment assistance, and other similar services in one location. You can find notices for upcoming public hearings here. They are posted on our website and advertised in the Akron Beacon Journal at least 15 days prior to the public hearing.


ORDINANCE authorizing the execution of a development agreement with White Pond Reserve, LLC, or its designee; providing for the acquisition, sale and development of property within the White Pond-Frank Blvd. Urban Renewal Plan area; finding such Property is not needed for any public use, and related findings; and declaring an emergency.


This legislation was introduced at the 11/14/2022 meeting. Council is currently taking time on this ordinance. A vote is pending.

City Offices are closed on Thursday, November 24th, and Friday, November 25th in observance of Thanksgiving.


There will be no curb service on Thursday, November 24th. There will be a one-day delay of trash/recycle collections for the remainder of the week, with curb service resuming on Friday, November 25th.

On Friday, November 25th, the City of Akron and Lock 3 are kicking off this year’s Winterblast season with the Welcome Santa Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting.


For the first time in the city’s history, the Welcome Santa Parade will be an evening parade featuring lighted floats, marching bands, and of course, Santa. At the conclusion of the parade, Santa will light the City of Akron’s official tree and finish with fireworks. Read more here.
