We share highlights from Council's legislative agenda from the previous Monday's Committee and Council meetings each week. Definitions and information about commonly used terms and council-related facts are also featured.

Legislative Highlights From Monday, April 3rd, 2023


RESOLUTION NO. 85-2023 declaring it necessary to improve certain streets between certain termini (2023 Arterial/Collector Resurfacing Program) by resurfacing such streets with asphaltic concrete 402/404 and declaring an emergency. Vote: 13-0

 

RESOLUTION NO. 86-2023 declaring it necessary to improve certain streets between certain termini (2023 Residential Resurfacing Program) by resurfacing such streets with asphaltic concrete 402/404, and declaring an emergency. Vote: 13-0

 

RESOLUTION NO. 87-2023 declaring it necessary to improve certain streets between certain termini (2023 Unimproved Street Resurfacing Program) by treating the surface thereof with substances designed to preserve the surface and declaring an emergency. Vote: 13-0


ORDINANCE NO. 89-2023 authorizing the Service Director or his designee to enter into an agreement or agreements with neighboring communities and/or the County of Summit for participation and cost-sharing in the 2023 Resurfacing Program; and declaring an emergency. Many of the streets and roadways along the outskirts of Akron have split jurisdictions with a portion of the roadway maintained by the City of Akron and the other portion maintained by the County of Summit or the neighboring community. These agreements will allow the City of Akron and the other local jurisdictions to participate in the 2023 Resurfacing Program and to fairly split the actual costs incurred. Vote: 13-0


ORDINANCE NO. 90-2023 authorizing the Mayor to submit an application and, if awarded, enter into an agreement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency for a Climate Pollution Reduction Grant, in furtherance of Mayor Horrigan’s objectives of supporting new and existing community sustainability and resilience projects; authorizing the use of the funds if awarded; and declaring an emergency. Vote: 13-0

April is

Minority Health Month!




CLEAN UP AKRON MONTH


On April 3, the City of Akron, Akron City Council, and Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB) held a press conference to kick off Clean up Akron Month. Clean Up Akron Month is an initiative headed by KAB to host clean-up events throughout the month in the City’s neighborhoods. Mayor Horrigan and Akron City Councilman Donnie Kammer also presented proclamations to Firestone Park resident Debbie Miller who has single-handedly cleaned up the Firestone Park neighborhood over the last several months


In April, KAB will be hosting multiple clean-ups. Future events, volunteer sign-up, and more can be found on their website. Residents can also do a self-led clean-up in their own neighborhoods and KAB will provide trash bags, gloves, sanitizer, and litter grabbers. 


Akron Safe Pledge Program



Akron City Council has launched the Akron Safe Pledge Program to provide funding for creating a safe dining experience during a rise in COVID-19 cases this season.

Rule 3.8 Duties of Committees



The committees shall consider every ordinance or resolution submitted to Council. No committee shall recommend approval or disapproval of an ordinance or resolution until it has been considered at a committee. meeting.
