Legislative Highlights From Monday, July 3, 2023


ORDINANCE authorizing the Director of Public Service, or his designee, to file an application for and, if awarded, accept and expend grant funding from the United States Department of Energy; and declaring an emergency. Vote: Ayes: Nays: If awarded, the City plans to use this grant to replace the existing lights on State Route 8 with energy-efficient LED lights.


ORDINANCE authorizing the Mayor, or his designee, to accept and expend grant funding from the Ohio EPA for the H2Ohio Public Water System Equipment Grant Program; and declaring an emergency. Vote: Ayes: Nays: The City plans to use these grant funds to purchase leak detection equipment, hydrant flow testing equipment, and a pressure recorder for use by the Water Supply Bureau.


ORDINANCE authorizing a Conditional Use to construct an addition to an outpatient medical clinic at 527 W. Market Street; and declaring an emergency. Vote: Ayes: Nays: The proposed iPromise Healthquarters will provide a wide range of outpatient services that will be available to the public.

Attention Residents of

Wards 3, 4, & 5!


This program provides Ring doorbell cameras to eligible households in high-crime areas. The eligible zip codes in Wards 3, 4, and 5 were selected based on the 2022 crime hotspot map provided by the Akron Police Department


This program will be first come first served.


Application Deadline is July 14th.

Upcoming Open Comment Public Hearings



Notices are posted on our website at least 15 days prior to the meeting date.


Suppose the Ordinance is a Conditional Use (Zoning measure). In that case, a notice is also mailed to the owners and residents of property within, contiguous to, and directly across the street from the property involved in the Ordinance (per Charter Section 34).


You do not need to fill out any forms to participate. You may attend in person in Council Chambers or remotely via videoconference.


Those wishing to attend remotely need to notify the Clerk of Council as outlined in the meeting notice in order to receive the information to join remotely.


Akron Safe Pledge Program



Akron City Council has launched the Akron Safe Pledge Program to provide funding for creating a safe dining experience during a rise in COVID-19 cases this season.
