Inland Foundation awards two grants to America's Newspapers
The Inland Press Foundation has awarded two grants to America’s Newspapers to fund executive development and newspaper industry research.

The grants were approved at the foundation’s recently concluded fall board meeting.

The first grant of $7,500 funds a second year of the America’s Newspapers Executive Development Program. That initiative is directed at emerging leaders. The first class of the program launched earlier this year.

The second grant will help underwrite national newspaper research.

Alabama Media Group shifts to all-digital, will stop publishing newspapers in 2023
Alabama Media Group will shift to all-digital delivery, ending publication in 2023 of its four newspapers in Alabama and Mississippi.

The Birmingham News, Huntsville Times and Mobile Press-Register and Mississippi Press will be published through Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023. Subscribers will continue to receive The Lede, a 7-day-a-week e-edition that reports on each city.

The McCall (Idaho) Star-News sold to CherryRoad Media
The Star-News sold this week to CherryRoad Media, according to John Cribb, Cribb, Cope & Potts who represented the sellers in the transaction.

CherryRoad Media, a subsidiary of CherryRoad Technologies, purchased its first newspaper in November 2020. Its bullish acquisition of newspapers in smaller communities reflects the company's recognition of the need for locally focused journalism, said CEO and founder Jeremy Gulban. The company now owns 79 newspapers in 14 states.

AIM Media Midwest acquires daily newspapers in Bryan and Napoleon, Ohio
AIM Media Midwest, LLC has acquired the publishing assets of Bryan Publishing Company and Napoleon, Inc. serving the communities of Bryan and Napoleon located in northwest Ohio.

In conjunction with the transaction, AIM announced the hiring of all current employees and the operations will remain under the direction of its current president, Sally Heaston, who is being promoted to publisher.

Local newspaper veteran promoted to publisher at Register-Herald
Terri Hale, a Beckley native, graduate of Trap Hill High School and long-time employee of Beckley Newspapers, was named publisher of The Register-Herald on Wednesday, along with the state’s two other CNHI newspapers, the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and the Times West Virginian in Fairmont.

Missourian Media bolsters its circulation staff by hiring Eric Freeman, Julia Roellig
Eric Freeman, a veteran of the newspaper industry, recently joined the staff of The Missourian (Washington, Missouri) as director of circulation.
