Precinct 4 broke ground on Alabonson Park in 2019. Funding was contributed by the Qatar Harvey Fund, the Near Northwest Management District, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, the City of Houston, and Precinct 4.

The 50-acre multi-use facility features sports fields for soccer, softball, and football, as well as picnic areas, playgrounds, paved multi-use and natural surface trails, parking lots, detention basins, and maintenance facilities.

The Chairman of the Qatar Harvey Fund and Qatar’s Ambassador to the U.S., His Excellency Meshal bin Hamad Al-Thani, commented on the new soccer fields: "It is our conviction in Qatar that sports serve as a critical agent for growth and social change. Similarly, we see the positive role competitive sports serve in Texas, where the State of Qatar has been engaged for decades in commerce, education, cultural exchange and security. We are delighted to celebrate three new soccer fields at Alabonson Park for the benefits they offer youth in northwest Harris County today and for many years to come."

The park was formerly in Precinct 4 but was moved into Precinct 1 in the county’s recent redistricting. Once the park opens, Precinct 1 will be responsible for maintaining it.

About the Qatar Harvey Fund and the Embassy of the State of Qatar

The State of Qatar donated $30 million through the Qatar Harvey Fund to support the long-term recovery of southeast Texas following Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Of that amount, $3.3 million went to build eight soccer fields in Harris County, three of which are in Alabonson Park and five are in Blue Ridge Park. This year, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in the U.S. is celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the United States.
