Alamitos Hosts Condor Community Day

Just before the holidays, Alamitos Intermediate proudly hosted Condor Community Day—a heartwarming event focused on supporting and celebrating their school community. Families enjoyed free haircuts for students, delicious meals, raffle prizes, holiday craft stations, produce boxes, pasta meal kits, and even family photos to capture the memories! As a Community School, Alamitos is incredibly grateful for amazing community partners who came together to serve students and families in such a meaningful way. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day so special—this is what community looks like!

GGUSD Recognizes School Board Appreciation Month

January is School Board Appreciation Month, and this year it holds special significance as Garden Grove Unified School District celebrates our 60th anniversary. For six decades, GGUSD has built a lasting legacy of excellence—made possible in large part by the longevity, stability, and continuity of leadership provided by our Board of Education. Their steady guidance and long-term vision have played a critical role in the district’s sustained success.

Clinton Corner Students Make Music

GGUSD students and staff kicked off their first day back from break with smiles, energy, and plenty of music at Clinton Corner. Thanks to fun, interactive musical activities provided by OC Music, students jumped right into the day by singing, moving, and making music together. It was a joyful way to reconnect, build community, and start the new year on a high note!

Faylane Elementary Hosts K-9 Literacy Event

Faylane Elementary recently hosted a paws-itively heartwarming K-9 Literacy event! Students had the special opportunity to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to friendly, four-legged listeners. The calm, supportive presence of the dogs helped build confidence, encouraged a love of reading, and brought plenty of smiles to campus. GGUSD is proud to support engaging experiences like this that make learning fun and memorable for our students.

GGUSD to Host Freshman Focus Zoom for Parents of 8th Graders

GGUSD is hosting a special Zoom Webinar called “Freshman Focus.” This Zoom Webinar is intended for all parents/guardians of current eighth grade students to help support their child(ren) in preparation for their transition to high school. The Freshman Focus Zoom Webinar will be held on Thursday, January 22 with the option to attend either the morning session from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. or the evening session from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. 

The meeting is designed to give parents important information regarding high school registration prior to our district’s eighth grade visits to high schools. GGUSD Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi and Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Dr. Stephanie Heflin will provide helpful insights regarding steps to prepare children for course selection, extracurricular opportunities as well as how parents can support their child(ren) in making a smooth transition to high school as they embark on this exciting time on their journey to lifelong success. It is our goal that all incoming high school students are well-informed about how to make the most of their high school experience both academically and through the many opportunities to get connected through athletics, visual and performing arts, and clubs. Families who need interpretation in Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, or Arabic should plan to arrive 10 minutes early to the meeting.

Free Live-Chat Tutoring for All GGUSD Students

GGUSD has partnered with Varsity Tutors to offer FREE 24/7 live chat tutoring and one-hour tutoring sessions to support students in their academic success (Goal 1). The program is accessible from home through ClassLink using a district-provided device.
