Alarming rise in work zone and TMA crashes
As our state attempts to return to normal amid the global pandemic, MoDOT is dealing with a dramatic surge in work zone crashes despite decreased traffic volumes.

Already this year, 39 truck/trailer-mounted attenuators have been hit in work zones across the state. That compares with 19 hits at this time last year. That’s a staggering 100% increase at a time when traffic volumes have decreased by 50%.

These numbers aren’t just overwhelming, they’re also completely avoidable if drivers would pay attention and not drive distracted. There are many things that can take a driver's focus off the road. One of the most dangerous is using a cellphone.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
Choosing to drive impaired, or ride with someone who is, is not worth the risk, and the consequences are real. This year’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign runs now-Sept. 7. The goal is to remind all motorists that driving impaired is a bad decision. Read more.
Champ Clark Bridge wins awards
The Champ Clark Bridge Project in northeast Missouri is being recognized with two awards - a regional award in the America's Transportation Awards competition and a National Award of Merit from the Design-Build Institute of America. Read more.
Be alert for back-to-school traffic
With school districts starting at different times, and with the possible modification of school schedules due to COVID-19 precautions, drivers are urged to be extra vigilant as students begin returning to class. Motorists are urged to slow down and pay attention. Read more.
Buck O'Neil Bridge update
A list of qualified design-build teams for the Buck O'Neil Bridge in Kansas City has been determined. From this group, the team with the best-value proposal will be selected. The selection is expected in February 2021 with construction beginning later that year. Read more.
