Kodiak Chamber of Commerce & KMXT to host Alaska Gubernatorial, US House & US Senate Fisheries Debates
KODIAK, AK, JULY 29, 2026 — The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Kodiak will again host fisheries debates September 9th and 12th for U.S. Senate, U.S. House and Alaska Gubernatorial candidates prior to the November 3rd General Election.
For over 36 years Kodiak’s fisheries debates have focused candidates’ attention on fish and the seafood economy that drives our coastal communities. Alaska’s seafood industry plays a critical role in the state’s economy, directly employing more than 41,800 workers annually and contributing $5.2 billion* in economic value to Alaska’s economy.
The gubernatorial debate will be held on Wednesday, September 9th at 6pm, and the U.S. House and Senate debates on Saturday, September 12th at 11am. All candidates who advance through the August 18th Primary Election and receive at least 5 percent of the vote will be invited to participate on stage at the Kodiak debates.
This year, the Alaska Gubernatorial, US House & US Senate Fisheries Debate will be held in-person in Kodiak at the Gerald C Wilson Auditorium and will also be broadcast live on KMXT 100.1FM, streamed at kmxt.org, made available statewide on public radio stations through Alaska Public Media and live streamed through the Kodiak Chamber’s website, kodiakchamber.org.
The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce and the Fisheries Debate Committee are currently accepting fisheries topics, key words and questions for the debate now through August 19th. If you would like to submit topics or questions, please contact the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce at (907) 486-5557 or email them to Alexa San Juan at memberrelations@kodiakchamber.org.
