Alayna's Mother Didn't Believe She Was Being Abused
Nighttime was frightening for 16-year-old Alayna and sleep was never easy. Her mother’s boyfriend entered Alayna’s bedroom nearly every night and sexually assaulted her. Alayna told her mother who claimed not to believe her. Her mother said if Alayna told anyone else, she would be beaten.

Finally, Alayna made an outcry at school, and her journey to safety began. Dallas CASA volunteer Jennifer was assigned to Alayna’s case.

Volunteer Serves as Role Model
Fred Partlo attended a Dallas CASA information session and was confronted with an unfortunate reality: while half of children in protective care are male, only 16% of advocates are male.

"I spoke up and asked why there weren't more men there. Who was taking care of the teenage boys? I knew then I had to sign up," Fred said.
