Albany is the capital of New York State, and contrary to popular belief – it does NOT suck! Whether or not you’ve explored this city, you gotta keep reading on as I give you exactly what you need to know to have a solid day bopping around town. My hope is to give everyone the opportunity to experience the city and decide for yourself...whether or not it sucks.

The underground music scene is rapidly growing with hundreds of local musicians and only more to come. There is the quantity of bands and musicians and the quality of music. Upstate creatives have taken this as an opportunity to form underground live music venues. The scene brings together a bunch of people in random locations that all share something in common, a love for live music.

Opalka Gallery Pop Up Beer Garden and

Neighborhood Block Party

As promised, we are putting the finishing touch on the 4th Annual Pop Up Beer Garden and Neighborhood Block Party event on the Russell Sage Campus at the Opalka Gallery in Albany. This series opening event is sure to be well supported with a super strong and creative line up including Druthers Brewing and Shmaltz Brewing, the 2022 Screen Print Biennial opening event, plant based edible delights by Meadowlark Catering, authentic Mexican with La Capital Tacos and sweet treats by O'Malleys Oven. All this and live music featuring Caity Gallagher and the Graham Tichey Trio. This will be a perfect end to summer on the event front, looking forward to seeing some of you on Friday August 16th!

INSIDE ACE! | CREATING A NEW PATH

This month I decided to let some up and coming voices take over the content with a couple of young, energized creative folks that should be on your radar. First up, Jonah Michel from IG: @aroundalbany shares his passionate approach to the existing and future potential of the City of Albany with his article A Day 'AroundAlbany'. Secondly, a young producer I have been working a lot with lately, Lily Buckley. She is tapped in to the underground creative scene like no other. This month she shares exciting developments in regional DIY music venues with her article 5 Venues You Don't Know to See a Show. Lots more happening musically in that vein including a new first year festival in Troy called Baccanalia. This will be the last weekend of this month and will be a 3 day SXSW style, distributed event. It seems the Capital District is increasingly becoming a musical destination!

We got through the big event last month at the Park Theater in Glens Falls! The highlight being the panel discussion on the collaborative potential of mission oriented and for profit businesses, creative and otherwise, synergizing to create a value add in our communities. Seeds were planted that I am looking forward to see germinate in the upcoming months. Big thanks to Chris Ristau, Ben Miller and the Park Theater team, the GF Collaborative, the GF Arts District and all the participants for their time effort.
