Marin Undergrounding Project Update
Project History: In 2010, the City Council created the Marin Utility Undergrounding District. This comprises the properties along the north side of Buchanan Street from Pierce Street to San Pablo Avenue and properties along both sides of Marin Avenue from San Pablo Avenue to Masonic Avenue. The creation of this District allowed the City to use credits accrued under PG&E Rule 20A for the undergrounding of utilities on a segment of the District.
The bulk of the undergrounding project was implemented in tandem with the Buchanan/Marin Bikeway Phase III project, with the AT&T utility facilities one of the remaining elements requiring coordination and removal.
Project Information: A contractor working for AT&T has begun removing remaining overhead telecommunication wires and poles along Marin between San Pablo and Masonic. The project duration is estimated to last 5-6 weeks including wire removal (1-2 weeks) followed by pole removal (2 weeks) followed by site restoration (2 weeks).
Next steps: Separate from AT&T’s work, the City is engaging a contractor to install the remaining light poles. The schedule for this work is still pending.
City staff are very excited to finally move forward with AT&T on this element of the project and hopes to see minimal impact during this time. Please be aware of any posted parking restrictions and traffic control at the project site and contact Public Works with any issues.
Washington Avenue Pavement Rehab Project (Phase II)
Project Information: The City of Albany has commenced the second Phase of construction for the Washington Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project. This project is part of the City’s Annual Pavement Rehabilitation Program (CIP No. 21000) and reflects the City’s commitment to maintaining and improving pavement conditions throughout Albany. Construction activities include construction of curb ramps, valley gutter, and pavement renovation on Washington Avenue from San Pablo Avenue to Masonic Avenue.
Timeline: Work started on Monday, March 7, and is anticipated to be completed in April 2022. Typical hours of work will be Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Alameda County Public Health Officials strongly recommend everyone wear a mask when indoors.
If you are considering not wearing a mask, ask yourself the following questions before making a choice that impacts you, your household, and community:
- Are you over age 65 or have a medical issue that puts you at risk of having a severe case of COVID-19?
- Are you missing one or more of your COVID-19 vaccine doses?
- Do you live/visit with people at risk of going to the hospital if they get COVID-19?
- Do you go to work with your co-workers or interact with the public regularly? o Are cases high where you live or where you are going?
If answering “yes” to any of these questions, wearing a mask may be especially important. Individuals should speak with a medical provider if they are immunocompromised or have other health risks.
Find a vaccination clinic near you or call 1-510-208-4VAX (1-510-208-4829). Residents can drop by a location near them and don’t need an appointment at County-supported vaccinations Points of Dispensing (PODs) and most pop-ups.
|
|
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a layered approach to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and this includes strong ventilation indoors.
- Open outdoor air dampers beyond minimum settings to reduce or eliminate HVAC air recirculation.
- Open windows and doors, when weather conditions allow, to increase outdoor air flow. Do not open windows and doors if doing so poses a safety or health risk (e.g., risk of falling, triggering asthma symptoms) to occupants in the building.
- Use fans to increase the effectiveness of open window.
