Albany Local Week is an opportunity to celebrate the amazing businesses, parks, attractions, and uniqueness of our city for one entire week (September 19–25, 2022). To coincide with Albany Local Week, the City is introducing the new Albany eGift Card, a community-based digital gift card that makes it fun and easy to keep local spending local.

Albany Local Week Instagram Challenge
Take the Albany Local Week Challenge to be entered into a drawing where one lucky winner will receive a $250 Albany eGift Card. Throughout Albany Local Week, we want you to show your support for your favorite Albany businesses.

Directions:
  • Buy something from a local Albany business.
  • Post a picture of the item on Instagram using the hashtag #AlbanyLocalWeek and tag the merchant you bought it from and tag us @albanycalifornia
  • You will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a $250 Albany eGift Card.

The contest begins Monday, September 19 and ends Sunday, September 25. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, September 27th. Have fun and enjoy everything Albany has to offer!

ALBANY VIRTUAL EVACUATION DRILL - OCTOBER 2, 2022
Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 9-10:30 AM

The Albany Virtual Evacuation Drill allows participating Albany community members to receive real-feeling test notifications through AC Alert via email to practice evacuating their places of residence. Evacuating quickly and effectively takes planning, preparation, and practice. With this drill, you will be able to test your evacuation strategy to find out what parts of it went well and what can be improved upon.

COASTAL CLEANUP DAY - TOMORROW
Tomorrow, September 17 from 9 AM-12 PM
Meet at the end of Buchanan Street.

Join the City of Albany, the Watershed Project, and Albany Landfill Dog Owners Group (ALDOG) for a waterfront cleanup! Wear sturdy shoes, a hat and sunscreen, bring a reusable water bottle, and bring your own gloves and bucket if you have them. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs should be on leash in registration area. Please consider riding a bike or walking to the event!

COMMUNITY RESILIANCE HUBS WORKSHOP
Sunday, September 25 from 1-4 PM
Location: Albany Community Center, 1249 Marin Ave.

Albany Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is planning Pop-Up Resilience Hubs in your neighborhood, with financial support from PG&E. Come learn more about the plan to serve Albany residents in case disaster strikes and help your neighborhood determine how the hubs can serve Albany residents during a major earthquake, fire, or other large-scale disaster.
FALL INTO HAIKU
If you live, work, or go to school in Albany, you are invited to submit haiku to be considered for inclusion in this year's "Fall into Haiku" program. The haiku theme this year is "Sense Closely!"
 
The idea is to capture moments, scenes, and impressions that are revealed when we pause to "sense closely" (through sight, sound, touch, taste, or smell) the world around us.
 
The submission window closes Monday, October 10, 2022.

The Muwekma Ohlone people have never left their lands here in the Bay Area. They have been here generation after generation.
Learn about the history and the heritage of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe and their struggle to regain federal recognition.

Presenter Alan Leventhal is a retired professor from San Jose State University who has spent 42 years with the tribe as an archaeologist and ethnohistorian.
Registration is required. Registrants will receive a Zoom link 24 hours before the event.

COVID-19 INFORMATION
Weekly COVID-19 Testing in Albany - Tuesdays and Thursdays

Weekly COVID-19 testing is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM-4 PM in front of the Albany Community Center at 1249 Marin Ave. The test is a self-administered shallow nasal PCR test and results are delivered directly 1-2 days upon receipt at Curative's labs.
