Alberta Angus Association Commercial Breeders of the Year

Congratulations to DCM Pohl Partnership of Wetaskiwin, AB.

DCM Pohl Partnership is a 4th generation of the Pohl family. The Pohl family has been farming in the Wetaskawin area since 1927. It has evolved from a mixed farm of originally grain and purebred Hereford cattle. Over the years we have farmed horses, pigs and dairy cattle. Today our farm consists of a mixed grain of oilseed pulses and cereal grain along with a cow/calf herd and back rounding feedlot.

We still farm the land that was owned by the first generation, and have added more land over the years. We also custom feed around 100 head per year. We currently calve out 250 Simmental Angus cross cattle. We strive to produce a medium framed animal with enough Angus influence to give that great finishing ability. We try to take our calves to 800-900 lbs with not too much fleshiness, so that when they go to the finishing feedlot; they preform very well. We love the maternal instincts that the Angus provides along with vigorous calves during calving. We have been extremely happy with the Angus bulls we have purchased over the past few years, which have worked very well to help us achieve these goals. The 5th generation is busy learning about farming from dad and granddad.
