New Exhibition: Segments

A new exhibit at the South Broadway Cultural Center invites reflection on one's point of perspective. Segments creates an anchor moving from self-reflection to physical location and showcases the work of artists Troy Tapia, Ellen Babcock, and Paul Chandler.

The show runs March 7 - April 8 with a reception on Thursday, March 9 from 5-8pm.

The Public Art Urban Enhancement Division is looking for an Associate Public Art Projects Coordinator who will be a supporting team collaborator, who is eager to dive into the multi-faceted process of learning public art project management and general arts administration.

This is an entry level position and an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with artists, government staff, board and commissions, and learn about creative project processes. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2023.

The Vision Zero Mural is a 200 foot long mural on the eastern wall of Expo New Mexico, along Louisiana Blvd. Painting begins March 15 and ends April 15.

The mural design emerged from a community engagement process, led by Artful Life, that involved a team of youth who live in the International District in collaboration with artist, Andrew Fearnside. The mural project is designed to promote the City's Vision Zero initiative, which is working toward eliminating traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility, and transportation for all.

From March 15 to April 15, one lane of Louisiana Blvd heading south will be closed Tuesdays through Saturdays between 7 am and 7 pm. Two ABQ Ride bus stops at Copper Ave/Louisiana Blvd and Domingo/Louisiana Blvd will also be closed during the painting activity. All other bus stops will remain open during this time.

The City's Public Art Program is proud to announce a new installation at Sawmill by artist Thomas Sayre at the end of March.

The installation consists of four earth cast vessels in the shape of water containers from different cultures. Earth casting is a process where very large shapes are dug from earth and filled with concrete mixed with iron oxide, along with structural supports.

MCYC is a professional development, paid summer internship program for youth interested in arts-based leadership opportunities.

The MCYC application is now open for any interested rising high school juniors, seniors and recent graduates living in the Albuquerque metro area. Each MCYC participant will be assigned to a different host site and work closely with a mentor to develop skills in the creative sector between June 1st through July 28th.

Interested youth should fill out and submit the MCYC 2023 Application by March 21, 2023 at 11:59 pm.

The Public Art Committee of Johnson City, TN is seeking qualifications from artists or art teams for the commission of a mural to be located in downtown Johnson City. There are three themes provided for artistic inspiration when developing the mural design: progress, encouragement, and welcoming.

This opportunity is open to all professional artists over the age of 18. Applicants must reside within the United States. The selected artist(s) will be paid $16,500 for the commissioned work.
