July 6th Update

Dear Friend,

I am disappointed to notify you that the heavy rainfall that we experienced over the weekend has affected many of our 38th Ward residents, especially those located in Portage Park. I understand how devastating it can be to have your basement flood. The Department of Water Management has crews in the field with 50 pieces of equipment on the streets working to inspect and clean their sewer structures. Water Management is continually working on Capital Improvement Projects by replacing old water and sewer mains to mitigate future flooding. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago has issued a Press Release with important information. Please see below:

HOLIDAY UPDATE

I mentioned in last week's email that I would be patrolling the 38th Ward with the 16th District Police over the Fourth of July holiday. We tried our best to protect our community and keep residents safe from illegal fireworks. Unfortunately, we encountered several lawbreakers who became very aggressive with us at Hiawatha Park, causing us to call for back-up. Huge messes were left behind at our local parks and other areas that were used to set off fireworks. This holiday is a particularly rough night for many people, especially those who suffer from PTSD, as well as pets. Last night there were multiple fires and crowded emergency rooms due to dangerous fireworks and disregard for the law. Next year, I will continue to work with the 16th District Police to devise a plan to prevent these occurrences from happening again. Our community is a great place to live and the safety of the 38th Ward remains my top priority.

Sincerely,
