Alderman Reilly Reports

Alderman Reilly Allocates Menu Funds to Install New Lighting on Hubbard Street

Contractors recently completed a project to install new street lights on Hubbard Street, from Clark Street to State Street. Alderman Reilly authorized a portion of his Aldermanic Menu Funds for this project after hearing residents’ and business owners’ concerns about insufficient lighting in the area. In total, 25 traditional street lights (shown below on left) and 10 pedestrian lights (shown below on right) were installed on Hubbard Street.

Alderman Reilly Cuts Ribbon Celebrating ParkShore Plaza Grand Re-Opening

This week, Alderman Reilly attended the grand re-opening of the plaza at the ParkShore Condominium building (195 North Harbor Drive). The newly-renovated 25,000 square foot space includes athletic courts, fire pits, dog friendly areas, and views of Lake Michigan. At the celebration, Alderman Reilly congratulated the building on completing the project without issuing a special assessment to residents. 

Millennium Park Summer Film Series Begins Tuesday, June 30

The annual Millennium Park Summer Film Series in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion kicks off on Tuesday, June 30. The series features one film per week each Tuesday and is free for all. All movies begin at 6:30pm. The first two films featured will be Independence Day (1996, PG-13) on June 30 and Ratatouille (2007, G) on Tuesday, July 7.

Alderman Reilly's Office Closed on Friday, July 3 in Observance of Independence Day

Alderman Reilly’s 42nd Ward Office will be closed on Friday, July 3 for Independence Day in accordance with the City of Chicago holiday schedule. Chicago Public Libraries and other government offices will also be closed on July 3.

42nd Ward Traffic Closures & Construction Projects

Crane Lifts:

355 N Clark

On Monday, June 29, a crane lift will take place near 355 N Clark St. The crane will be set up at 8am and will be fully removed by 4pm at the latest. During the lift, the sidewalk on east side of Clark St, from Kinzie St to James C. Tyree Way. The easternmost lane of Clark St in front of 355 N Clark will be closed, but southbound traffic will continue to flow using the other available lanes on Clark St.


300 W Hubbard

On Tuesday, June 30, a crane lift will take place in the alley near 300 W Hubbard St. The lift will take place from 8am - 4pm in the east-west alley bounded by Hubbard St, Orleans St, Illinois St, and Franklin St. The east end of the alley at the Franklin St entrance will be blocked during the duration of the lift.


Utility Work:

Randolph St

CDOT continues structural repairs on Randolph St near Columbus Dr. A single lane closure will be implemented on both Upper Randolph St and Lower Randolph St to complete this work. The project will be completed by July 3.


Grand Avenue - Bally's Casino

To prepare for the new permanent Bally's Casino, utility work is in progress on Grand Ave in River North. As a result of this construction, Grand Ave, between Union Ave and Kingsbury St, will be reduced to one lane in each direction. These closures will be in place until the first week of July.


Superior Street Utility Work

Beginning Monday, June 15, the Department of Water Management closed one lane of traffic on Superior Street near Wells Street (205 W Superior St). Parking on the north side of Superior Street at this location will continue to be prohibited, and vehicles will be permitted to utilize these spaces to continue eastbound. These closures will last until July 23, weather permitting.


Weekend Closures: Ohio / Ontario Feeder Ramp

This weekend, the Illinois Department of Transportation will implement a full weekend closure of the Ohio Street and Ontario Street Feeder Ramps to perform pavement patching near the Kennedy Expressway. These closures are part of a series of weekend closures on the feeder ramps. During the following weekends, the feeder ramps will be closed from Friday at 10pm - Monday at 5am:


  • June 26-29
  • July 17-20
  • July 24-27


Vehicles will be detoured to access the expressway via Orleans St, Division St, and Clybourn Parkway to North Avenue (Illinois 64).


State Street Closed for State / Lake CTA Station Reconstruction

As part of the ongoing State / Lake CTA Station Reconstruction project, a full closure of the southbound lanes has been implemented on State Street, from Wacker Drive to Randolph Street. Lake Street, between State Street and Wabash Avenue, will remain closed indefinitely. Please click here for the detour map.


Until the closure is lifted, southbound vehicles will be rerouted to Kinzie Street, Clark Street, and Washington Street to re-access State Street. Local business and driveway access on State Street will be maintained during the closures. All sidewalks and crosswalks are open for pedestrians. The underground CTA Red Line train station at Lake will remain open. As a result of the closure on State Street, the following CTA bus stops will be eliminated at State & Lake until further notice:


#2 - Hyde Park Express, #6 – Jackson Park Express, #10 – Museum Science & Industry, #29 – State, #36 – Broadway, #62 – Archer, #146 – Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express, #148 – Clarendon/Michigan Express.


Canal St Reconstruction

The closures remain on the east half of Canal St, between Adams and Madison, and parking on Canal, between Adams and Madison, will be prohibited. Two lanes on the west side of Canal St will be maintained for northbound traffic. These closures will last until late 2026. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the west side of Canal St, and access to driveways and commercial loading zones will be maintained.


Bridge Construction Updates

Work continues on the Lake Street Bascule Bridge. The sidewalk on the southwest corner of the bridge will remain closed until summer 2026. The Lake Street Bascule Bridge is expected to re-open by spring 2028. The detour map can be found here. The State Street Bridge is now open. The approximate completion date for the Chicago Avenue Bridge is January 2027, and the Lake Street Bridge will be completed by spring 2028.
