Alderman Reilly's Office Closed on Monday, March 2 for Pulaski Day

Alderman Reilly’s office will be closed on Monday, March 2 for Pulaski Day. All City of Chicago government offices will be closed Monday in accordance with the City of Chicago mandatory holiday schedule. 


If you require city services, please call 311, or dial 911 if you require immediate emergency assistance.

Alderman Reilly Attends Memorial for

Reverend Jesse Jackson

This week, Alderman Reilly had the honor of attending the memorial service for the late civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr. Reverend Jackson was a pioneer in the fight for equal rights, not only in Chicago but across the nation. Through his Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Reverend Jackson fought for freedom for all Americans, and his efforts will continue to be felt by generations of Chicagoans.


Alderman Reilly sends his deepest condolences to the Jackson family and all those who were touched by the Reverend’s leadership.

42nd Ward Community Shred Event

This Weekend

Alderman Reilly is hosting a free shredding event this Sunday, March 1 from 9am - 12pm at Ohio Place Dog Park (360 West Ohio Street). Residents should enter using the Ohio Street entrance off Kingsbury Street.


On Sunday, March 8, Alderman Reilly will co-host another paper shredding and e-recycling event with Alderman Hopkins, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, State Senator Feigenholtz, and State Representative Croke. This event will take place from 9am - 12pm at My Parking Gold Coast (1258 North State Parkway). A flyer for this event is below with guidelines and further direction. Please remember to remove all paper clips, staples, and other bindings.


A representative from Alderman Reilly’s office will be present at both events to address your questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Early Primary Election Voting Begins

in all Wards on March 2

Early voting for the March 17, 2026 Primary Election continues at the new Election Supersite (137 South State Street) and the Board of Elections Office (69 West Washington Street, 6th Floor). 


Additionally, starting Monday, March 2, early voting will begin at locations in all 50 wards. The 42nd Ward early voting location is Lawson House (830 North Dearborn Street), but any voter in Chicago can vote at any of the active early voting sites (listed here). Voters can also visit chicagoelections.gov for information to vote by mail. The hours of operation for early voting at these sites are as follows:


February 12 - March 8

  • Weekdays: 9:00am - 6:00pm
  • Saturday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Sunday: 10:00am - 4:00pm


March 9 - March 16

  • Weekdays: 9:00am - 7:00pm
  • Saturday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Sunday: 10:00am - 4:00pm

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held downtown on Saturday, March 14 at 12:15pm. You are invited to join Alderman Reilly to march in the parade. The slot number for our float will be announced soon. Stay tuned to Reilly Reports for the latest updates.

42nd Ward Traffic Closures & Construction Projects

Public Assembly:

205 N Michigan

On Saturday, February 28, a public assembly will take place near 205 N Michigan. The group will begin assembling at 11am and will begin marching at 12pm. The group will march north on Michigan Ave to Wacker Dr, west on Wacker Dr to Clark St, and south on Clark St to 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza). The group will disband at Daley Plaza at approximately 3pm. The City estimates an attendance of 200 people. The group will use a megaphone and a sound amplifier.


Filming:

401 N Michigan

Starting Monday, March 2, filming for a television show will take place near 401 N Michigan and in River North. Parking restrictions will be lifted no later than 11:59pm on Wednesday, March 4. During filming, prep, and wrap, parking will be restricted on the following streets at the listed times:


Monday, 3/2 at 5am - Wednesday, 3/4 at 11:59pm

  • Both sides of Lower North Water St from Lower Michigan Ave to Lower Saint Clair St


Tuesday, 3/4, 4am - 11:59pm

  • West side of Lower Saint Clair St from Lower Illinois St to Lower North Water St


Monday, 3/2 at noon - Tuesday, 3/3 at 11:59pm

  • Both sides of Rush St from Illinois St to Hubbard St
  • Both sides of Hubbard St from Wabash Ave to Rush Ave

Crane Lift:

600 N State

On Wednesday, March 4, a crane lift will take place at 600 N State St to remove cooling towers from the roof. Between 7:30am - 3:30pm, traffic barriers will be in place around the crane site, and the sidewalk on the south side of Ontario St, between Dearborn St and State St, will be closed for pedestrians. Westbound vehicular traffic on Ontario St will be reduced to one lane, but traffic will continue to move. Flaggers will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians.


63 E Lake

Next weekend (March 6 - 8), a crane lift will take place near 63 E Lake St. Although this lift takes place in the 34th Ward, the traffic closures may impact 42nd Ward residents. From 7pm on Friday, March 6 to 7pm on Sunday, March 8, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:


  • Lake St, from Wabash Ave to Michigan Ave
  • Garland Ct, from Haddock Pl to Lake St


Motorists will be redirected to Wacker Pl and Randolph St during the road closures. Additionally, pedestrian access will be restricted on the south side of Lake St, from Wabash Ave to Michigan Ave.


777 N Michigan

Next weekend (March 6 - March 8), a crane lift is scheduled to take place at 777 N Michigan Ave. As a result, several nearby streets, including portions of Michigan Ave and Chicago Ave, will be closed to vehicular traffic. Additionally, the sidewalk on the east side of Michigan Ave, between Chicago Ave and Superior St, will be closed to pedestrians. For a full list of the street closures, see below:


  • Friday, March 6, 2026
  • Starting at 9pm, Michigan Ave will be closed between Chicago Ave and Superior St
  • Crane assembly will progress northbound
  • Full closure of intersection at Michigan Ave and Chicago Ave from 12am to 5am on Saturday, March 7
  • Saturday, March 7, 2026
  • After crane erection is complete, Chicago Ave will reopen to traffic
  • Hoisting operations will begin at approximately 6am and are expected to conclude around 6pm
  • The crane will remain on site overnight and will be fully barricaded between Superior St and Chicago Ave
  • Sunday, March 8, 2026
  • Crane dismantling will resume at 7am
  • Temporary closure of Chicago Ave at Michigan Ave will again be required from 7am to 12pm
  • The crane is expected to be fully removed from the site by 5pm, at which time all streets will be reopened to normal traffic flow


Bally's Utility Work - Grand Avenue

To prepare for the new permanent Bally's Casino, utility work will be completed on Grand Ave in River North. As a result of this construction, Grand Ave, between Union Ave and Kingsbury St, will be reduced to one lane in each direction. These closures will be in place until May 2026.


Lake Street Bascule Bridge Construction Update

Work continues on the Lake Street Bascule Bridge. The sidewalk on the southwest corner of the bridge will remain closed until summer 2026.The Lake Street Bascule Bridge is expected to re-open by spring 2028. For the detour map, click here (note: the Canal St detour listed is no longer in effect).


Canal St Reconstruction

Canal St is currently undergoing reconstruction. Stage 2 of the project will begin again soon, and the east half of Canal St between Adams and Madison will be blocked, and parking on Canal between Adams and Madison will be prohibited. Two lanes on the west side of Canal St will be maintained for northbound traffic. These closures will last until late 2026. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the west side of Canal St. Taxis and rideshares will be directed to follow the guidelines listed here. Ohio / Ontario Feeder Ramp

As reported in a previous Reilly Report, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is completing phase 3 of its work on the Ohio / Ontario Street Feeder Ramps. The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2026. IDOT's press release on these closures can be found here.


Bridge Construction Updates

As reported in a past Reilly Report, construction continues on several downtown bridges, and Alderman Reilly has expressed his frustration with CDOT for a lack of coordination and planning. The State Street Bridge will re-open temporarily for the Shamrock Shuffle on March 22 and will re-open permanently in spring 2026. The approximate completion date for the Chicago Avenue Bridge is January 2027, and the Lake Street Bridge will be completed by spring 2028.


114 E Oak Façade Work

A partial sidewalk closure is in place for construction on the façade at 114 E Oak. 8 feet of sidewalk clearance will be maintained, and the barricades around the construction site will be removed by the end of February.


600 N Michigan Façade Work

Traffic lane closures are in effect on Ohio Street between Michigan Ave and Rush St. All closures are scheduled to end by April 2026. Until February 23, three traffic lanes on Ohio St will be closed to install glass panels on the façade. For the remaining four weeks of construction, only two lanes of traffic will be closed on Ohio St. In addition, the west sidewalk and curb lane near the storefront on Michigan Ave will be closed and pedestrians will be rerouted until April 2026.
