Alderman Reilly Hosts Community Shred Event This Weekend

Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s shredding event. This Sunday, March 8, Alderman Reilly will co-host another paper shredding and e-recycling event with Alderman Hopkins, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, State Senator Feigenholtz, and State Representative Croke. This event is from 9am - 12pm at My Parking Gold Coast (1258 North State Parkway).


A flyer with additional details and guidelines is below. Please remember to remove all paper clips, staples, and other bindings. We look forward to seeing you there!

Early Primary Election Voting Has Begun

in All 50 Wards

Early voting for the March 17, 2026 Primary Election continues at the new Election Supersite (137 South State Street) and the Board of Elections Office (69 West Washington Street, 6th Floor). The hours of operation for these two sites are as follows:


February 12 - March 8

  • Weekdays: 9:00am - 6:00pm
  • Saturday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Sunday: 10:00am - 4:00pm


March 9 - March 16

  • Weekdays: 9:00am - 7:00pm
  • Saturday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Sunday: 10:00am - 4:00pm


Additionally, early voting is now open in all 50 wards. The 42nd Ward early voting location is Lawson House (803 North Dearborn Street), but any voter in Chicago can vote at any of the active early voting sites (listed here). Voters can also visit chicagoelections.gov for information to vote by mail.

Chicago River Dyeing and St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 14

The annual Chicago River dyeing and downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade is next Saturday, March 14. The Chicago River dyeing will occur between 10am - 12pm. Bystanders are encouraged to watch the festivities between Ontario Street (along the north branch of the river) and Columbus Drive (along the main branch of the river). The St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off at 12:30pm at the corner of Columbus Drive and East Balbo Drive. The parade will travel north on Columbus Drive to Monroe Street.


You are invited to join Alderman Reilly to march in the parade. The slot number for our float has not yet been determined but stay tuned to Reilly Reports for the latest updates.


Due to street closures for the parade, we encourage you to arrive at the float line on North Columbus Drive at 10:30am to ensure access. Please click here to RSVP to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade with Alderman Reilly and his team. We hope to see you at the parade!

Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle on Sunday, March 22

Race weekend for the Shamrock Shuffle is set to take place from Friday, March 20 to Sunday, March 22. The mile run/walk will be on Saturday, March 21 from 11am - 1pm and the 8K and 2-mile walk will be on Sunday, March 22 from 7am - noon.


Balbo Dr, from Columbus Dr to Lake Shore Dr, will be closed from Monday, March 16 to Wednesday, March 25, and Grant Park will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6am on Saturday, March 21 to 2pm on Sunday, March 22.


Street closures during the race on Sunday, March 22 will last from 7:30 - 11:30am. Vehicles violating these closures will be towed starting at 1am on Sunday, March 22. 42nd Ward Traffic Closures & Construction Projects

Crane Lift:

63 E Lake

From March 6 - 8, a crane lift will take place near 63 E Lake St. Although this lift takes place in the 34th Ward, the traffic closures may impact 42nd Ward residents. From 7pm on Friday, March 6 to 7pm on Sunday, March 8, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:


  • Lake St, from Wabash Ave to Michigan Ave
  • Garland Ct, from Haddock Pl to Lake St


Motorists will be redirected to Wacker Pl and Randolph St during the road closures. Additionally, pedestrian access will be restricted on the south side of Lake St, from Wabash Ave to Michigan Ave.


Alley Closure:

Arcade Place

On Saturday, March 7, the alley bounded by Madison, Wacker, Monroe, and Franklin (Arcade Place Alley) will be closed for a delivery of equipment into the building at 1 S Wacker Dr. Arcade Place, between Wacker Dr and Franklin St, will be closed on 3/7 from 9am - 4pm.


Public Assembly:

205 N Michigan

On Saturday, March 7, a public assembly will take place near 205 N Michigan. The group will begin assembling at noon and will begin marching at approximately 1pm. The group will march north on Michigan Ave to Wacker Dr, west on Wacker Dr to Clark St, and south on Clark St to 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza). The group will disband at Daley Plaza at approximately 4pm. The City estimates an attendance of 200 people. The group will use a megaphone and a sound amplifier.


806 N Michigan

On Tuesday, March 10, a public assembly will take place near 806 N Michigan Ave. The group will begin assembling at 10am and will then march south on Michigan Ave, west on Madison St, north on State St, west on Wacker St, and north on LaSalle St to the Chinese Consulate at 100 W Erie St. The City estimates an attendance of 100 people. The group will use speakers and sound amplifiers, and a banner may be displayed.


Bridge Closures:

Wells St Bridge

Overnight between Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8, the Wells St Bridge will be closed for testing. The full closure will begin at 12:01am on Sunday, March 8 and will last until approximately 5:30am the morning of Sunday, March 8. During the closures, vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be prohibited.


Harrison St Bridge (34th and 28th Ward)

On Wednesday, March 11, the Harrison St Bridge will be closed from 9:30am - 2:30pm for testing. This bridge is not located in the 42nd Ward, but its closure could affect nearby traffic patterns. Once testing is complete, the bridge will reopen and traffic will resume.


Van Buren St Bridge (34th Ward)

On Thursday, March 12, the Van Buren St Bridge will be closed from 9:30am - 2:30pm for testing. This bridge is not located in the 42nd Ward, but its closure could affect nearby traffic patterns. Once testing is complete, the bridge will reopen and traffic will resume.


205 W Superior

From March 9-13, parking will be prohibited on the north side of Superior St, between Wells and the alley adjacent to 200 W Superior St. Eastbound traffic will be redirected into the existing parking spaces on the north side of Superior St to ensure vehicular traffic remains open. Weather dependent, these closures will be lifted by the end of March 13.


River North St. Patrick's Day

On Friday March 13, a section of Hubbard Street will be closed for a River North St. Patrick's Day street festival. Hubbard St, between LaSalle Dr and Clark St, will be closed from 12pm on March 13 - 5am on March 15. Event hours will be 4-10pm on March 13 and 8am - 10pm on March 14.  The event is free to attend and will consist of traditional Irish inspired food, drink, and activities.


Bally's Utility Work - Grand Avenue

To prepare for the new permanent Bally's Casino, utility work will be completed on Grand Ave in River North. As a result of this construction, Grand Ave, between Union Ave and Kingsbury St, will be reduced to one lane in each direction. These closures will be in place until May 2026.


Lake Street Bascule Bridge Construction Update

Work continues on the Lake Street Bascule Bridge. The sidewalk on the southwest corner of the bridge will remain closed until summer 2026.The Lake Street Bascule Bridge is expected to re-open by spring 2028. For the detour map, click here (note: the Canal St detour listed is no longer in effect).


Canal St Reconstruction

Canal St is currently undergoing reconstruction. From March 9 at 8pm through March 13 at 6am each day, Canal St will be closed from Adams St to Madison St. Northbound vehicles will be detoured to Adams St, Jefferson St, Washington St to access Canal St. Cross-street traffic on Monroe will be maintained at all times. Access to driveways and commercial loading zones will be maintained, as well as pedestrian access to the sidewalk. CTA bus reroutes will be minimal as a result of the work.


Ohio / Ontario Feeder Ramp

As reported in a previous Reilly Report, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is completing phase 3 of its work on the Ohio / Ontario Street Feeder Ramps. The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2026. IDOT's press release on these closures can be found here.


Bridge Construction Updates

As reported in a past Reilly Report, construction continues on several downtown bridges, and Alderman Reilly has expressed his frustration with CDOT for a lack of coordination and planning. The State Street Bridge will re-open temporarily for the Shamrock Shuffle on March 22 and will re-open permanently in spring 2026. The approximate completion date for the Chicago Avenue Bridge is January 2027, and the Lake Street Bridge will be completed by spring 2028.


114 E Oak Façade Work

A partial sidewalk closure is in place for construction on the façade at 114 E Oak. 8 feet of sidewalk clearance will be maintained, and the barricades around the construction site will be removed by the end of February.


600 N Michigan Façade Work

Traffic lane closures are in effect on Ohio St between Michigan Ave and Rush St. All closures are scheduled to end by April 2026. Currently, two lanes of traffic are closed on Ohio St. In addition, the west sidewalk and curb lane near the storefront on Michigan Ave will be closed and pedestrians will be rerouted until April 2026. Signage and barriers are in place to alert drivers and pedestrians.
