Alderman Reilly Reports

Alderman Reilly Visits

195 N. Harbor Point Condominium

On Monday, September 28, 2026, members of the Harbor Point Condominium Association at 195 N. Harbor Drive welcomed Alderman Reilly for an engaging neighborhood meeting focused on ward development, public safety, local infrastructure, City services, and the priorities shaping the 42nd Ward.

During the meeting, Alderman Reilly provided updates on several important issues, including the City’s 2027 Budget and the City Council’s priorities and fiscal guardrails as the budget process moves forward. Among the Council’s red lines are no property tax increase, no head tax, and no reliance on Springfield revenues that have not yet been approved.

Residents also raised several important neighborhood concerns, including the need for public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, improved access to bathrooms in neighborhood parks, and enhanced traffic enforcement on Lake Shore Drive, including the potential use of speed, red-light, and noise cameras.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for residents to ask questions, share concerns, and hear directly from the Alderman about issues affecting their neighborhood and the broader 42nd Ward.

We extend a special thank you to Lieutenant Chatys for joining the meeting and providing important updates and guidance on local public safety initiatives. His participation added valuable perspective to the discussion and was greatly appreciated by residents.

Parking Meter Agreement Approved

Alderman Reilly joined his colleagues in approving an amended agreement governing the transfer of Chicago’s parking meter concession to Stonepeak Partners. The agreement provides the City with a $75 million upfront payment and a 5% share of annual net operating income from the parking meter system for the remainder of the existing concession, with those proceeds directed toward the City’s pension obligations. The agreement also includes additional protections for the City, including a 2% transfer fee if the concession is sold again in the future, changes to payments associated with temporary parking space closures, and provisions for future electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The Council’s approval follows several weeks of review and negotiations focused on strengthening the terms of the proposed transfer and securing additional value for Chicago taxpayers.

FREE Lime E-Scooter and Bicycle Helmets

We are pleased to offer complimentary Lime helmets courtesy of Lime, now available for 42nd Ward residents. As part of an ongoing commitment to safe riding, these high-quality helmets are designed to help keep our community safe on two wheels whether you're riding an e-scooter or a bicycle.

A key part of making e-scooters safer is keeping them off our sidewalks. Alderman Reilly has consistently advocated for stronger enforcement against sidewalk riding and for keeping e-scooters where they belong: on the street and in designated bike lanes. Safe riding means wearing a helmet and following the rules of the road.

Supplies are limited. Distribution will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis for the first fifty (50) neighbors who sign up. If you'd like to claim a helmet, please fill out our Google Form. We will reach out to the first 50 registrants with all the details on when and how to pick up your helmet at City Hall. Thank you for taking this step to stay safe.

42nd Ward Community Shred Event

On Saturday, October 3, Alderman Reilly will host another paper shredding and e-recycling event. This event will take place from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at 211 N. Upper Harbor Drive, Chicago, IL 60601. Please remember to remove all paper clips, staples, and other bindings.

A representative from Alderman Reilly’s office will be present at the event to address your questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Concrete Repairs on Upper-Level Randolph

Project: The project includes partial and full-depth concrete repairs to the north sidewalk and repairs to the underlying steel. Work will be performed by CDOT In House Construction.

Impacts: Beginning on Monday, October 5th, the north curb lane and the north sidewalk of upper-level Randolph will be closed between Field Blvd and the west building driveway at 400 E Randolph. The westbound bus stop at Field Blvd will be temporarily relocated west of the intersection. CDOT has coordinated this with CTA. Additionally, the intermediate-level sidewalk and curb lane will be closed for the duration of the project. The sidewalk on lower-level Randolph will also be closed for the duration of the project. The closure limits will be the same as on upper-level.

Reason: The north sidewalk and some underlying structural steel exhibit significant deterioration. Repairs are necessary to maintain a safe sidewalk walking surface and prevent further corrosion of underlying structural steel. Intermediate level closures are required to perform the steel repairs. Lower-level closures are required to protect pedestrians below from any potential hazards from the construction above.

Duration: This work will require full closure of the north sidewalk and a curb lane closure on upper-level Randolph for approximately 7 weeks beginning October 5th.

Hubbard Street Stairwell Closure

Alderman Reilly reported the rusted staircase at E. Hubbard Street and N. Wabash Avenue to the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) due to pedestrian safety concerns. He is pleased to report that construction on the stairwell began this week. The stairwell will remain closed until repairs are complete, weather permitting, by spring 2027.
