Alderman Reilly Reports

Alderman Reilly's Comments on Cook County Electronic Monitoring System

This week, the Committee on Public Safety held a meeting to discuss the faults with the current electronic monitoring (EM) system run by the Cook County Chief Judge’s office. At the hearing, Alderman Reilly highlighted the recent statistics provided by the Chief Judge’s office that 8% of those on EM are lost or unaccounted for. Additionally, nearly one third of those who are missing face charges for violent crimes. The Alderman called on Cook County and the Illinois General Assembly to reform the system to better protect Chicagoans.

The hearing was in response to recent tragedies in Chicago that shed light on the broken electronic monitoring system. To watch Alderman Reilly’s full comments, click here. More coverage on this hearing can be found here.
