Alderman Reilly's Office Closed

Monday, September 1 for Labor Day

In observance of Labor Day, Alderman Reilly’s Office will be closed on Monday, September 1. City Hall, City of Chicago government offices, and all Chicago public libraries will also be closed.


If you require city services, please call 3-1-1 for non-emergency requests. Please dial 9-1-1 if you require immediate assistance.


Alderman Reilly’s office will reopen on Tuesday, September 2.

Upcoming Special Events

Bike the Drive


On Sunday, August 31, Lake Shore Drive will be temporarily closed for the Active Transportation Alliance’s Bike the Drive event. This event allows cyclists to use Lake Shore Drive for a safe, family-friendly ride. 


Riders will take off from Butler Field in Grant Park between 6:30am and 10am. Lake Shore Drive, from Hollywood Avenue to Science Drive, will be closed from 6am to 11:45am on August 31. Taste of Chicago / Run Mag Mile


Taste of Chicago returns to Grant Park September 5-7 from 11am - 9pm each day. This year, the festival will include a dozen new restaurants, bringing the number of participating food vendors to over 45. Guests will also be able to enjoy live music performances, dancing lessons, and much more. Admission is free for all attendees. For more information, click here.


As part of the Taste of Chicago Festival, the Magnificent Mile will host the Run Mag Mile 5K and 10K runs on Saturday, September 6. Runners will take off from Grant Park, run through the heart of downtown on Michigan Ave up to Superior, and finish back in Grant Park at Columbus & Ida B. Wells. Both races will begin at 7am and all runners will be finished by approximately 8:30am. The course map can be found here, and for more information, click here.


Sundays on State


Another rendition of Sundays on State will take place on Sunday, September 7 from 11am - 6pm. The event will be on State Street from Randolph to Jackson. Neighbors are invited to attend for a day of free, fun, and family-friendly activities. To check out the list of vendors, performances, and activities for kids, click here.


Mexican Independence Day



Please be advised that unsanctioned celebrations related to Mexican Independence Day are expected to take place in Downtown neighborhoods from Friday, September 12 through Tuesday, September 16.


To manage traffic and ensure public safety, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) will implement rolling street closures to prevent car caravans from entering the Central Business District. Checkpoints will be established to allow local residents access to their buildings and parking garages. Alderman Reilly’s Office is working closely with CPD and local property managers to distribute access passes for residents.

18th Police District Council Community Survey

On July 31, 2025, a majority of the Community Commission on Public Safety and Accountability voted to support new prohibitions on CPD's ability to conduct certain traffic stops. This is not the final vote, and the Commission has requested additional public input.


Proposed prohibition: "The Chicago Police Department shall be prohibited from conducting a traffic stop or temporarily detaining a driver of a vehicle that is not a commercial, livery, or chauffeured vehicle where the primary basis for the stop is any of the following violations:

  1. A missing or improperly displayed front license plate, so long as the vehicle has a properly displayed rear license plate;
  2. A displayed registration sticker that has expired within one year; 
  3. Improper license plate fastening or positioning where the license plate is otherwise clearly displayed; 
  4. Improper rear license plate illumination; 
  5. One non-functioning headlight, taillight, or brake light during daylight if the vehicle has at least one functioning headlight, taillight, and brake light; and
  6. Operating a vehicle with a loud sound system."

42nd Ward Traffic Closures & Construction Projects

Filming:

444 N Michigan

From August 29 through August 31, a commercial will be filming scenes at 444 N Michigan Ave. During filming, parking will be prohibited during the following times:


  • Friday, 8/29; Saturday, 8/30; Sunday, 8/31 from 7am-7pm daily
  • South side of E Illinois St from Michigan Ave to N St Clair

401 E Wacker

On Tuesday, September 2 Chicago Fire will be filming scenes in and around the St. Regis building at 401 E Wacker Dr. During filming, parking will be prohibited at the following locations:


  • Tuesday, 9/2 from 9am - 9pm
  • North side of Lower Wacker from 401 E Wacker to Lake Shore Dr
  • North side of Upper Wacker from 323 E Wacker to 361 E Wacker
  • Tuesday, 9/2 from 10am - 9pm
  • Both sides of Middle Stetson from Middle Lower Wacker to Middle Lake
  • Both sides of Middle South Water from Michigan Ave to Middle Stetson


111 W Monroe (overnight)

On Wednesday, September 3 and Thursday, September 4, a commercial will be filming scenes around 111 W Monroe St. During filming, parking will be prohibited at the following times and locations:


  • Wednesday, 9/3 at 6pm through Thursday, 9/4 at 8am
  • East Side of Wells St from Adams to Marble Pl
  • South Side of Monroe from Clark St to 120 W Monroe St
  • Wednesday, 9/3 at 10pm through Thursday, 9/4 at 3am
  • West Side of Wells St from Monroe to Jackson Blvd


Intermittent traffic control will also be implemented on Thursday, 9/4 from midnight-2:30am at the following locations:


  • Wells St from Madison to Jackson Blvd
  • Lasalle St from Madison to Jackson Blvd
  • Jackson Blvd from Wells to LaSalle

Crane Lift: 758 N Larrabee

On Saturday, September 6, a crane lift will occur at 758 N Larrabee. The crane will arrive onsite at 8am and is scheduled to leave the area by 4pm. The lift will result in a full closure of Larrabee St between Chicago Ave and Superior St. "Sidewalk Closed" and "No Parking" signs will be posted in advance of the closures, and barricades will be placed on either side of Larrabee St at the points of closure. In case of inclement weather, the lift will be rescheduled for Sunday, September 7.



Overnight Closure on Huron Street for ComEd Work

From Tuesday, September 2 to Saturday, September 6, Huron St between Franklin and Wells will be closed each night for ComEd transformer work on the public right of way. The closures will begin no earlier than 8pm and end no later than 6am the following mornings. The following detours will be in place:


  • Eastbound Huron Street to Northbound Franklin Street, to Eastbound Superior Street, to Southbound Wells Street, and back to Eastbound Huron Street
  • Westbound Huron Street to Southbound Wells Street, to Westbound Erie Street, to Northbound Franklin Street, and back to Westbound Huron Street


Access to businesses, driveways, and resident parking garages will be maintained. Additional wayfinding signs will be posted as necessary.



Centennial Fountain Temporary Outage

MWRD will implement a two-day outage of the Centennial Fountain on Tuesday, September 2 and Wednesday, September 3. During the outage, work will be completed to improve the fountain operations and the security and operational systems. The outage will affect the fountain, cascading display, and the water cannon. After September 3, the fountain will operate as normal until the end of the season (September 14).



State / Lake CTA Station Upgrade

CDOT and CTA continue work to transform the 108-year-old CTA train station at State and Lake. Partial lane closures on Lake St (from Dearborn to Wabash) began last week, and partial lane closures on State St (from Lake to Randolph) began August 25. Contractors will be drilling holes in the street to verify the position of existing utility infrastructure. No demolition will occur during this initial scoping work.


The CTA station will remain open, and access to surrounding businesses will be maintained throughout construction. This work will be in operation for several months. Working hours will be 7am-4pm. The new station is expected to be finished in 2029.



Halsted St / Chicago Ave River Bridge Construction

As previously reported in Reilly Reports, CDOT has begun work on Halsted St as part of the Halsted St / Chicago Ave River Bridge project. Halsted St will continue to be closed in both directions from the River to Ancona St. Chicago Ave has been reduced to one lane in both directions, and work on the Chicago Ave Bridge will begin in October 2025. The work hours will be 7am-3pm on weekdays, with the possibility of work on Saturday during the same hours.


Check the current detour map here. Work on Halsted St is expected to be completed by the end of Summer 2026, and work on the Chicago Ave Bridge is expected to be completed by the end of the year 2026.



830 N Michigan Façade Work

Contractors are completing work on the façade at 830 N Michigan Ave. During work, a temporary sidewalk closure will be in place until approximately October 31. The façade will be fully enclosed with a temporary wall, allowing a portion of the sidewalk in front of 830 N Michigan to remain open to pedestrians.



Lighting Improvement Work on Ohio Street

Work continues on Ohio St from 417 W Ohio to the corner of Ohio and Kingsbury St. Contractors will install foundations, bore underground conduits, and install new residential lighting poles. The installation work will take approximately 6-9 weeks. CDOT will also perform restoration on the sidewalks altered by the construction. The sidewalk restoration is estimated to take 2-3 weeks.


During construction, temporary "No Parking" signs will be periodically installed as required. Overnight and weekend parking will remain open during the work. The original lights will remain working until the new lighting system is fully functional. Please notify 311 if an existing light is not functioning at night.



Street Resurfacing - Wabash Ave from Wacker Dr to Balbo Dr

CDOT continues work on Wabash Avenue from Wacker Drive to East Balbo Drive. The work is a part of the CDOT's Arterial Street Resurfacing Project.


The work will include ADA sidewalk improvements, curb and gutter removal and replacement, milling and paving the existing asphalt, and striping improvements. During construction, temporary "No Parking" signs will be periodically installed. These temporary signs will restrict parking during working hours, while adhering to rush hour restrictions on construction closures.


Work is estimated to be completed by October 31, 2025.



Ohio Street I-90/94 Feeder Ramp Resurfacing

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) continues to perform work on the outbound lanes of the Ohio Street feeder ramp. Only two lanes will be closed at a time. IDOT is not required to adhere to the construction scheduled outlined by the Chicago municipal code. The project is estimated to be in progress until late 2025.



676 North Michigan Avenue Façade Project

Redmond Construction was hired to complete a façade project at 676 North Michigan Avenue. Currently, the following closures are in-place:


  • Sidewalk on the south side of Huron, from Michigan Avenue to a point 150' west thereof
  • Curb lane on the south side of Huron, from Michigan Avenue to a point 150' west thereof is being used as a pedestrian walkway
  • Partial sidewalk closure the west side of Michigan, from Huron to a point 100' south thereof


This project is expected to be completed by fall 2025.



State Street Bridge Project

CDOT continues structural repair work on the State Street Bridge. Throughout the project, the bridge will remain closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. State Street will remain open on both sides of the bridge during construction, and vehicles crossing the river will be rerouted to Clark Street and Dearborn Street.


The project is expected to be completed at the beginning of December 2025.



River North Lighting Project

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has completed new light pole installation in the area bounded by Chicago, Ontario, Orleans, and the river. CDOT continues to restore infrastructure trenching.



Bally's Casino Construction Update

Contractors are now in the process of installing the structural foundations, and superstructure will be installed starting in early September. Stay tuned to Reilly Reports for future updates.
