Tribune Editorial written by Alderman Reilly

Alderman Reilly recently authored an op-ed in the Chicago Tribune addressing the alarming rise in antisemitic violence across the country and the dangerous rhetoric that seeks to justify it. In the piece, he highlights clear similarities between the dangers of  anti-Zionism and antisemitism; calling on leaders, especially within the Democratic Party, to confront this growing threat with honesty and moral clarity.

OEMC & CPD Weekend Advisory

With many festivals, concerts, and athletic events this weekend, residents and visitors should expect large crowds, increased traffic, and temporary street closures. Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly. The Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) reminds everyone to be mindful of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to on-site security or by calling 911.

To coordinate public safety efforts, OEMC will activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), working alongside the Chicago Police Department (CPD), Chicago Fire Department and City of Chicago infrastructure departments, city agencies and private partners. In addition, the City’s Summer Operations Center (SOC) will be active throughout the weekend, providing strategic oversight and citywide deployment of resources to support public safety. The SOC will also be active through Labor Day.

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is aware of several possible demonstrations this weekend and is prepared to ensure the safety of participants, nearby residents, and businesses. These peaceful First Amendment gatherings are expected to take place downtown on Saturday:

  • Anti-ICE Protest – Saturday, June 14 at 10 a.m., beginning at Federal Plaza (230 S. Dearborn) and proceeding to Trump Tower (401 N. Wabash).
  • No Kings on June 14th” – Saturday, June 14 from noon to 4 p.m. at Daley Plaza (50 W. Washington).
  • Support the March to Gaza to End the Genocide” - Saturday, June 14 at 2 p.m. at Water Tower Park (180 E Pearson St)
  • No human being is illegal” - Saturday, June 14 at 4 p.m. at Trump International Hotel & Tower (401 N. Wabash Ave)

As always, CPD’s response will be rooted in constitutional policing principles, and officers will work to facilitate peaceful demonstrations while preventing unlawful behavior. CPD's policy on First Amendment assemblies can be found here.

Community-Focused Policing Initiative Feedback

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is currently gathering community input as a part of their Advancing Community-Focused Policing initiative. This is to implement community policing at all levels of the department with the goal of assisting the department in the following areas:

  • Implementing the Consent decree
  • Meeting Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) goals
  • Forming the new CPD strategic plan

An online survey is available for residents to submit feedback to CPD. Those interested in participating may complete the survey here. The online survey will be open through June 27, 2025.

Feedback from this Community-Focused Policing Initiative will be incorporated into a “synthesized feedback report” to help CPD shape officer deployment patterns, the way officers engage with the community, and the overall goals of CPD’s new strategic plan. Additional information on this program is on the CPD website here. Additional questions regarding this initiative may be submitted to the CPD Office of Community Policing at community@chicagopolice.org.
