Board Approves my Request to Attempt to Identify Alternate Site for Aldie Fire Station

February 26, 2018

For those following the Aldie Fire Station replacement process, I wanted to let you know that last Thursday (February 22, 2018) I brought forward a closed session item requesting that the Board stop all work on the current site and direct the County Administrator to identify an alternate site, or sites, outside of the Village of Aldie but within the area previously identified by Loudoun County Fire & Rescue as "Acceptable" based on appropriate response times to the Stations "First Due Area", and back-up response times to adjoining service areas.

The effort involved two closed sessions and nearly three hours of debate. I did not get everything I wanted; however, I am happy to report that while design work will continue on the current site, the Board has directed the County Administrator to make every effort to identify an alternate site, or sites, outside of the Village of Aldie but within the "Acceptable" area, and report back to the Board within the next 30 days.

Please know that my office is coordinating directly with the County Administrator in hopes of identifying a viable alternative site that will meet the community's need for public safety while fully preserving the Village's rural, historic and scenic character.

As always, I will keep you informed as progress continues.

All my best,
