Georgia Education Policy Alert

Action Alert: Help Us Keep Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Standards in Georgia's Educator Training Requirements!

Tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, June 8, the Georgia Professional Standards Commission will vote on another revision to its standards to remove words like "bias," "culturally responsive," "linguistically diverse," "inclusive," and more related to historically excluded groups. Censoring educators and limiting opportunities will hurt all students.

We urge you to come give public comment to the members of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission Thursday, June 8, and tell them to vote no on these proposed rules and to protect the inclusive language that already exists in the rules now.

Give Public Comment or Attend the Meeting Virtually

Tomorrow, the GaPSC will meet at 4:00 pm ET, and the first 25 people to sign up will be eligible to give public comment to the board.

Individuals desiring to deliver public comment regarding the currently proposed rules must be present in the GaPSC Board Room, located at 200 Piedmont Avenue SE, Suite 1716, West Tower, Atlanta, Georgia 30334-9032.

Parking Information: You can park in either the Pete Hackney Parking Deck ($10) or take the MARTA to the Georgia State stop. You will need a photo ID to enter beyond security.

A speaker sign-up sheet will be available Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 3:30 pm, at the sign-in desk, located outside the GaPSC Board Room. No advance requests to speak will be accepted.

If you are giving public comment, here are some tips:

○ Each speaker is limited to three minutes and can only speak one time.

○ Speakers are asked to please be concise and avoid duplication of other speakers’ remarks.

○ There is no discussion between speakers and the Commissioners throughout the Commission meeting, including during the public comment process.

You can view the meeting virtually here.
