Today at 4pm the joint (both senate and assembly) committees of the Legislative Operations Committee will meet to consider SJR7. SJR7 is step one to adding a fundamental right to “reproductive freedom” to our state constitution. Should abortion be enshrined and protected at the same level as “life, liberty, and property?’

Democrats BELIEVE that 80% of Nevadans want abortion for all 9 months of pregnancy, without limitation or even safety regulations, available to all without respect to parental rights of underage girls, and you, as the taxpayer, should foot the bill. This constitutional amendment will provide this and more.

SJR7 is poorly conceived, poorly written, and is an over-broad word salad that at best will keep Nevada Courts occupied for a decade deciding what it really means and at worst turn Nevada into an abortion industrial complex preying on one of the greatest tragedies a woman faces.

To amend the constitution, SJR7 must be passed by this legislature, then the next legislature. There is no opportunity for a veto from the governor. Then it is voted on by the people in 2024.
