SPARK Park of the Month
Alexander Elementary School - Alief ISD
8500 Brookwulf Dr., Houston, Texas 77072

Throughout February, we will feature the SPARK Park at Alief ISD's Alexander Elementary School in our calendar and on social media.

Former art teachers Joseph Moldonado and Christy Elam helped students (also known as Alexander Adventurers) paint hundreds of tiles, which now adorn a curved, concrete bench. The theme of the students' tiles was Transportation: Moving into the Future, which also appears in the large, colorful, abstract hot air balloon sculpture, hard to miss at the entrance. 2021 saw the installation of new play equipment, benches, covered picnic tables, swings, and a 1/5 mile concrete walking trail.

Contributors include Guill Family Foundation, The Elkins Foundation, Alief ISD, Council Member Tiffany Thomas, and Park Desert Initiative Funding from Kinder Foundation, Houston Endowment, and The Brown Foundation.
Your SPARK Park
Remember, all SPARK Parks are open to the community after school, on weekends, and holidays.

SPARK combines efforts and contributions from many sources: local school districts, Harris and Fort Bend Counties, City Council Members, the private sector, corporations, neighborhood groups, PTA/PTO groups, and concerned citizens. The mutual cooperation of these entities is just one aspect that makes the SPARK program unique. Currently, there are over 150 active SPARK Parks in Harris and Fort Bend Counties.

For a map of active SPARK Parks, please visit the SPARK website at www.sparkpark.org.
