Virginia Lee Scott was born on August 1, 1934, in Hays, Kansas, the youngest of six children, 4 boys and 2 girls. She never married but was favorite aunt to three generations of nieces and nephews, always finding the perfect (and often forbidden) toy for Christmas and birthdays.
After graduating from Michigan State University in 1954, Virginia was hired to be the first and only policewoman in the city of Alexandria, Virginia. Later, joining the Metropolitan Police in Washington, D. C., she was no longer the first and only but was nonetheless the only woman in her class of 40 men. She earned a master's degree in social work and worked as a social worker for 30 years--in New York City, Washington D.C. and finally Santa Barbara where she supervised foster care and adoptions for the County.
Known to her family as Ginger, she is a champion scrabble player and a competitor in bridge and Mah Jong. She loves playing cards of all kinds including hearts, rummy , canasta, and others. She likes to sing and back when she could do it, dance.
Virginia's dog Trudy has joined her at Alexander Gardens. Trudy was put in a cardboard box with her two puppies and abandoned at the La Cumbre parking lot. Virginia rescued her from the County Animal Shelter and she and Trudy have been devoted companions to each other for more than 12 years.
We are so excited to have Ginger at Alexander Gardens!
