As part of the Algae Biomass Summit, we are offering the opportunity to tour the Arizona Center for Algae Technology and Innovation (AzCATI) research and development testbed in Mesa, Arizona.

The Arizona Center for Algae Technology and Innovation, or AzCATI, established in 2010 on ASU’s Polytechnic Campus in Mesa, is a leading testbed and research facility for algae innovation and is part of the Fulton Schools of Engineering.

Our vision is for algae technology to make major contributions within the food-energy-water nexus to producing renewable fuels, food, feed and higher value products while performing environmental services in the form of treatment technologies for various carbon and nutrient rich waste streams. All in support of the circular economy and a more sustainable future for society

AzCATI’s mission is to serve as a national algae testbed to accelerate the advancement of algae technology development and commercialization through innovative research, education, and collaboration.

The tour will include ample opportunities for questions and discussion with faculty and staff on specific research capabilities, research interests and equipment and will include visiting AzCATI’s state of the art laboratory and five-acre outdoor testbed with greenhouses. There will be active cultivation experiments from several liter scale up to 20,000 L scale in multiple cultivation configurations from open ponds to closed photobioreactors to attached growth systems.

Once on site at AzCATI, the tour is expected to last approximately 2 hours. Note that weather in Mesa, AZ in October can still be warm and sunny and a good portion of the tour will be outdoors. Please wear closed toe shoes (no heals) as the site has grating and potential trip hazards. Taking photographs is welcome and encouraged. Click on registration link below.
