Dr. Alicia Carter-Watts Named Principal at Landry
L.B. Landry High School and Algiers Charter are pleased to announce that Dr. Alicia Carter-Watts has been named the Principal at L. B. Landry High School.

Dr. Carter-Watts has been a member of the Algiers Charter Family since 2020 as a TAP ELA Master Teacher. In that role, she supported teachers in developing and facilitating a student-centered teaching and learning environment driven by data and tailored to the interest of students. During our season of virtual and hybrid learning, Dr. Carter-Watts worked closely with teachers to provide students with high levels of engaging lessons. This year, Dr. Carter-Watts served as Landry's Assistant Principal of Curriculum.

Prior to joining Algiers Charter Schools, Dr. Carter-Watts had worked for 24 years in the field of education in various roles including English teacher, Assistant Principal, and Master Teacher.

Dr. Carter-Watts is a proud graduate of New Orleans Public Schools. She graduated from McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree from Xavier University of Louisiana. Dr. Carter-Watts earned the coveted Doctoral Degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Ms. Trenese Knox Named Principal at Behrman
Martin Behrman Charter School and Algiers Charter are pleased to announce that Mrs. Trenease Knox has been named the Principal at Behrman Charter.

A native of New Orleans, LA, Mrs. Knox has been a champion for educational excellence for students, her community and herself. Mrs. Knox studied at Dillard University and Southern University at New Orleans. It was there where she developed the passion for merging kids' ability to learn and discover their creative potential through practical approaches. As a result, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Southern University at New Orleans. She continued her education and received her Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in 2008.

Mrs. Knox taught as an elementary school teacher in New Orleans Public Schools Pre-Hurricane Katrina, Algiers Charter Schools Association, Jefferson Parish Public School District and KIPP Schools of New Orleans. She has served as a TAP Master Teacher, Academy Leader, Response to Intervention Coordinator (RTI), Administrator, Executive NIET (National Institute for Excellence in Teaching) Master Teacher, and Middle School Director for a combined 24 years. While serving in these capacities, Mrs. Knox has dedicated her time and energy to focus on best practices that would strengthen students' academic performance and have a rewarding school experience.

Mrs. Knox's commitment to excellence is shown by her dedication to insist that teachers become reflective and proactive professionals by customizing students’ educational experience in the classroom.

Ms. Alexia Thompson Named Assistant Principal at Landry
L.B. Landry High School and Algiers Charter are pleased to announce that Ms. Alexia Thompson has been named the Assistant Principal of Curriculum at L. B. Landry High School.

Ms. Thompson is a certified NIET and CLASS evaluator. She graduated from the University of New Orleans with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education English and received her Master's in Educational Leadership from the University of Holy Cross.

Before joining the Algiers Charter family, Ms. Thompson served as Master Teacher at Harry S. Truman Middle School and Principal at Theodore Roosevelt Middle School. Prior to that, Ms. Thompson served on the leadership team of Marrero Middle School, where she also coached new and veteran teachers in school curriculum and best practices for literacy. While at Marrero Middle, she coached the performance and competition dance teams and chaired the Student of the Year Committee.
