High Hill Sanitary Sewer Relocation - Phase I

Project Description:

The Village is replacing an aging sewer located near Ratt Creek between Kirkland Drive and Hanson Road in Algonquin. The project includes installing approximately 2,500 feet of new 18-inch sanitary sewer to replace the existing 12-inch line and relocating it out of environmentally sensitive wetlands. These improvements will increase system reliability, reduce maintenance challenges, protect natural resources, and provide additional capacity for future growth.

Why Are There Colored Flags in Your Yard?

Please Leave Them in Place!

Description:

With construction projects increasing throughout the community, you may notice colored flags or spray-paint markings in yards, parkways, and along streets. These markers are placed after a JULIE (Illinois 811) utility locate request and are an important safety step before any digging begins.

When contractors or homeowners plan to dig, they must contact JULIE (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators) by calling 811 or submitting a request online. Utility companies then mark the approximate location of underground lines to prevent damage.

Each color represents a different underground utility:

🔴 Red – Electric power lines

🟡 Yellow – Gas, oil, or petroleum pipelines

🟠 Orange – Communication, cable TV, or fiber optics

🔵 Blue – Drinking water lines

🟣 Purple – Reclaimed water or irrigation

🟢 Green – Sewer and drain lines

⚪ White – Proposed excavation area

🌸 Pink – Temporary survey markings

Why This Matters:

Underground utilities are critical infrastructure. Accidentally striking a gas, electric, water, or fiber line can cause service outages, costly repairs, environmental damage, or serious safety hazards.

Please do not move, remove, or tamper with these flags or markings. They help construction crews work safely and prevent disruptions to homes and businesses. The flags are temporary and will be removed once work is completed.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe!
