| | New Residential Waste Collection Program Now Underway | | |
The Village of Algonquin's new cart-based residential waste collection program is now in effect. The updated program, provided through Groot, replaces the former sticker-based system with a standardized monthly service designed to improve consistency, convenience, and overall value for residents while aligning with current industry practices. This transition follows the Village’s June 2025 request for proposals, which sought to maintain the existing sticker-based model but received no bids, reflecting a broader industry shift away from sticker programs.
Under the new program, residents receive a 95-gallon refuse cart by default, with the option to request a 65-gallon cart, while seniors age 65 and older may apply for a 35-gallon cart at a discounted rate. Groot has begun delivering carts to residences throughout the community. If you received the wrong size cart, please contact Groot to confirm that a different size was requested. The incorrectly delivered cart may be left at the curb for collection and replacement by Groot. Collection continues on the same weekly schedule at a flat monthly rate of $21.84. The program also introduces a weekly large-item allowance, allowing one item under 50 pounds to be placed outside the cart at no additional cost.
Existing stickers will remain valid indefinitely and may continue to be used for yard waste collection or for additional refuse placed outside the cart. Residents who prefer to return unused refuse stickers may participate in the Village’s sticker buyback program during the first two weeks of June at the Ganek Municipal Center. Refunds will be issued at $3.49 per sticker, with refunds for four or fewer stickers processed immediately and refunds for five or more stickers mailed during the week of July 6. Yard waste collection will otherwise remain unchanged, with stickers required except during designated free collection periods.

The Village of Algonquin's Summer Concert Series returns June 11, bringing live music, local food vendors, and family-friendly fun to the Jerry Kautz Pavilion at Towne Park in the heart of Old Town Algonquin. Concerts begin at 7:00 p.m., with food vendors opening at 6:00 p.m.
The season kicks off with Shout Out Band on June 11, featuring food from Curious Crow, Your Sister's Tomato, and Kona Ice. Additional concerts will be held throughout the summer, offering a variety of musical performances and great local eats.

Lions Armstrong Memorial Pool is now open for the 2026 season. Pool passes remain available for individuals and families, offering benefits such as priority entry and guest passes throughout the summer.

High Hill Sanitary Sewer Relocation Project
If you live near High Hill Park or travel along Hanson, Harnish, or Kirkland, you may continue to see crews working along Ratt Creek as part of this project. Hanson Road remains closed to through traffic within the project area, and the posted detour route remains in effect while construction continues. Residential and business access is being maintained throughout the project.
