January’s numbers are in, and we helped 1,075 kids this month! All thanks to you – our donors. 

Alice’s Kids has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Burke & Herbert Bank Foundation, recognizing the organization’s ongoing work to support children in need throughout the community. Our Executive Director, Ron Fitzsimmons, was on hand to accept the donation! 

Late last year, Ron and his wife Meg visited the quaint town of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. While there, Ron recalled how two long-time donors, John and Molly Phillips, actually lived there, so, unannounced, they knocked on their door! They all had a nice visit, and Ron was shocked to learn that he and John actually attended the same high school in West Islip, New York! Small world!

Ron was the guest speaker at Trinity’s United Women in Faith’s January meeting. He spoke about our mission, the types of requests we receive, and how working with local communities bolsters our presence throughout the country. Board member Patrick Fitzsimmons and Director of Public Relations Hilary Riedemann were also on hand to meet the attendees. A “heart offering” was collected, and the group raised $1,500 for us!

Warm clothes for a young girl who frequently needs to travel to the hospital to receive chemotherapy for bone cancer.

A suit for a high school senior whose single mother passed away suddenly over the holiday break.

A gift card so a 16-year-old girl who has been struggling socially could accept an invitation to a party at a bowling arcade.

Karate lessons to help a child with ADHD learn self-control and also make some new friends.

Sensory and self-soothing items, including a weighted sweatshirt, for a young boy who suffers from separation anxiety and trauma after experiencing physical and sexual abuse by his preschool teacher.

New clothes for a 10-year-old girl who had to throw out her entire wardrobe before moving in with her grandfather after her home tested at a dangerously high level of methamphetamine.
